Binary Resources

Are there any files, slides, etc to help us teach/introduce binary numbers? I noticed one of the student quiz questions asks about the number of bits to send information, but I did not see a file students could reference to learn about bits.

Hi!

The word bits is actually taught in one of the previous lessons (U1L3). There also are a couple resources linked off the lesson plan https://curriculum.code.org/csp/unit1/5/ for teaching binary. The Flippy Do is usually super helpful in teaching students binary numbers. If you come upon any other resources that you think work well with your students please share them here

Best,

Dani

From my research, the following links will take you to two of the very best videos on binary numbers. Excellent videos for all learners!

Great video - I added to my binary lessons I use in K8 building on binary bracelets. Something fun to start HS kids with too. See videos of 1st grader and 12th doing the bracelets. http://codemathteks.edublogs.org/numbers/binary/. Looking for HS kids to teach unplugged lessons to ES kids, as know this helps build their mastery too; and post their video lessons.
