Computer Science in Science PD: Meet and Greet

Hi Mary!

WOW!! You sure are busy!! I don’t think you have any more spare time! also love all the computer science background and experience you have! How great for your students!!

Hi! I’m Grace. I have been a Middle School Science teacher for 15 years. My current assignment is with 7th Graders, but have also taught 8th Grade. I have very little experience with CS.

Hi Kim: You and I are in the same boat. I’ll be starting my 16th year of teaching M.S. Science, but first time teaching CS…“anxious and excited”, to be sure!

Hi, my name is Michelle. I’ve been a technology resource teacher at the elementary level and a technology teacher at the middle school level. I’ve used code.org with middle school students and it was very successful!

Hi! My name is Sara Fish and I teach science to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This will be my second year teaching. I do not have any experience teaching computer science, but I definitely look forward to learning.

My name is Jake Duke. I have been teaching middle school science in the Bellevue School district for the past 13 years.

I’m Alan Hauser. I teach robotics and science at Bancroft Middle School. I teach use LEGO Mindstorms and teach Scratch as part of my curriculum. I have used code.org as an introduction to coding.

Hi all,

My name is Mary Murray and I teach 7th-8th science at Bancroft Middle School. I honestly don’t know much about coding but I have heard a lot of great things about th program, so I am looking forward to getting started.

We are starting a STEAM magnet here at Bancroft. I am excited but pretty nervous.

My name is Paola (pow-la). I’ve been teaching middle school science, computers, and recently television/video production to 7th and 8th graders for 24 years. My degree is in biology but I also have a technology credential. I used the Introduction to Computer Science 20-hour course with my 7th grade Computer students last year. I’ve also participated with the Hour of Code the past two years with my 7th grade Science students.

Hi Everybody!

My name is Veronica Austin. I have been an educator for almost 20 years. Currently, I am an elementary school Technology Integration Specialist. I’m looking forward to bringing code into our science curriculum.

Hello,

I am super late to the conversation and cutting it close as class starts tomorrow! My name is Rachael and I teach 8th grade science in San Diego Unified. Next year I am moving to 7th and 8th grade and as I am part of my district’s team for the CA Early Implementation Initiative, I will be starting NGSS in the fall as well. 2015-16 will be my 10th year of teaching. My background is in Biology, Instructional Leadership and Academic Administration. I have done the Hour of Code twice, just once with my students, and look forward to learning more about teaching CS in my science classroom. I look forward to working with you all!

Rachael

Hi Paola, How did the Intro to CS course go? I was interested in it, but we don’t have a technology class at my school unfortunately. We did the hour of code last year with LightBot on the iPads - the kids loved it! Rachael

Hi, My name is Randy and I teach in Anaheim. This is my first time trying to implement Code in my science classroom and excited to give it a try! I have been teaching 8 years in middle school, both life and physical science.

Hi I’m Debbie Spencer. I teach at General Smallwood Middle School in Indian Head, MD. This is my 4th year teaching 8th grade math. I have 4 kids in 5th (twins), 7th and 8th. I enjoy martial arts, reading and stamping/card making.

Hi my name is Susan and I am excited to teach computer science to my 7th graders this year. I attended the computer science in algebra and it was very complicated. I am hoping this is more intuitive since I am endorsed to teach science.

Hi My name is Xavier Loza, I am a Math and Science Teacher, I have been teaching for 3 years and look forward to being part of this program.
