Expert Remixing

I love the “take camera” feature! What a cool perspective and fun to use, too.

Creating additional breeds can make the field more crowded, so it’s important not to create to many of them at once (example – only create 1 or 2 turtles for a given breed).

This level of “play” becomes rather complex and will take an awful lot of patience to work with the kids and the software.

Sometimes it’s really difficult to troubleshoot what you did if it doesn’t work, so it’s a good idea to remix each time you add something new in case you need to start over from the last step…

The remix feature was an absolute necessity. The turtles did not move as planned until the module was remixed several times.

Remixing the turtles gives you a new copy to work with every time you remix this program.

http://www.slnova.org/aspidarc/projects/84403/ I changed some agents to make the new program go faster and slower

There is more data to analyze and the camera from agent was very cool.

I added wolves, conditional, wiggle, slider, and collision. However, the camera was not performing properly. I had to reset each time.

I changed my original colliding turtles model by making my agents have actual shapes & colors. I also made their movement more lifelike. The fish move up and down in order to create a bobbing effect as if they were in water. I made the two agents, turtles and fish, affect one another. When the fish and turtles collide, more turtles are created and the fish are deleted.

With this model, I had already put some of the new techniques we learned in PD into motion. However, I added a camera so that we can get an agent’s view of the terrain and I made it so that the collisions would mimic epidemic patterns of infection.

In this model I tried to add a breed and a camera to existing breeds

I was able to change the camera view, which enlarged the interactions and made them seem more life-like. As I played with wiggle, I noted that making the angle >90 degrees results in the agent simply circling, while <30 degrees created movement that was more linear and altered the collision rate.

I this model, I began to create an ecosystem that reflected and african safari. I added multiple collisions to allow the different agents to reflect a real life animal food chain. I changed the wiggle so that the agents had a more dramatic movement.

This is the second remix .

I added the camera to the agent and played around with the slider.

In this particular remix, I gave the agent the camera, added procedures, used extreme wiggle, added sliders, and detected collisions.

On this one I added a breed to the original ecosystem starter model, I added procedures, made the eagle wiggle, detected collision, and pretty much everything accept giving it the camera and creating a slider.

I added a slider for the number of turtles and made a second breed with a camera that followed the closest turtle, I made the second breed change color based on how close it was to the turtles. I wrote a procedure for the wiggle walk and also for following the turtles. The following procedure required the breed to determine if a turtle was within 10 spaces as of the turtles so it could chose the closest turtle to follow.

In this second project, turtles could meet a doctor and have increased immunity (based on a slider) or meet a quack, which calls a misdiagnosis procedure to turn him black and immobilized.

I added a camera to the Mountain Lion and I also made it have a more extreme wiggle.
