I love this activity to introduce return values! More generally, I it was great to do an unplugged activity for a bit. I did it despite the fact that many students weren’t quite at that point - it was still relevant to them.
I wished I would have done more of a discussion around what “Pseduocode” is before they started. Some students wrote up actual code and others didn’t write anything because they didn’t know how to write the actual code.
The cool thing is that after I explained it a bit more, some students were really able to think through the algorithm. You could actually HEAR the computational thinking take place. It was cool.
This is making me think I could have more “write psuedocode” warm-ups for students.
