# AP Exam for those not in a an actual class

Hello, we have a student that has been completing the Computer Science Principles on their own and is interested in taking the AP Exam. Has anyone been in this situation? This is my first year teaching the subject and I am unsure how to treat this as I do not have this student in my class. Thanks for your help!

Hi @christopher.klusewit,

I haven’t been in this situation but I found an answer to a FAQ on the College Board website (I searched for “independent study”): [https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/ap-coordinators/exams-special-prep/computer-science-principles?course=ap-computer-science-principles](https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/ap-coordinators/exams-special-prep/computer-science-principles?course=ap-computer-science-principles)

It looks like it’s possible, but your site’s AP coordinator should go over those requirements.
