Greetings All,
My Name is Eric Farlow, I have been a teacher for 24 years. My entire career has been spent at Mann Middle School in Cloverpark school district. I started out thinking I would be a High School History teacher and instead I have taught CTE courses the entire time and love it. I currently teach Robotics, Design and Technology, Sci-Ma-Tech and Applied Technology.

My name is Juan Cardona. Iā€™ve been a teacher now for going on 10 years. Iā€™ve worked with students from every grade level from Kindergarten to 8th grade as their bilingual specialist. For the past four years I have also been focusing on students who need extra support, but are not considered learning disabled. Using CS has given both of these demographics a new way of looking at learning and a ā€œcan doā€ attitude. I feel CS will play a major role in the future learning of these demographics.

My name is Michael Bruesch and I am set to begin my 5th year teaching middle school science. I have taught Social Studies and Language arts in the past, all at the middle school level. All told this is my 9th year teaching. Iā€™m excited to introduce computer programming and coding into my science classroom.

Hi!
My name is Maggie Laqui and Iā€™m a middle school teacher at Murphy Elementary in Chicago, IL. Iā€™ll be starting my 11th year in teaching and I have always enjoyed computer science and programming. I became interested in computers when I was watching my older cousin begin coding in the Basic language. Iā€™m looking forward to sharing my high interest with my students.

Hi Alana:

Iā€™ve also taught 7th grade science in the life science realm. Iā€™ve used the SEPUP curriculum, Issues in Life Science with them. Iā€™m looking forward to integrating programming into this curriculum.

Hello all! Iā€™m Kymia. This will be my 9th year teaching middle school math in Chicago Public Schools but my first year as a science (specifically STEM) teacher. Iā€™m so excited to make this transition as teaching these subjects together just seems like a natural process.

Hi Elif! Iā€™m also nervous/excited about adding the comp. sci. aspect to my teaching. Iā€™m hearing great things about it. Lots of planning to do for the upcoming school year!

Hi! My name is Jamila Adams. I am going into my 2nd year of teaching. I have taught English Language Arts, Mathematics & Science, but I am totally new to teaching computer science. I am, however, very excited to bring computer science to my students who may not have ever had this opportunity.

Hello Kymia! I, too, work for CPS! Hopefully this curriculum will show our students that there are so many other opportunities out there for them & give them something to be excited about when trying to make it through high school & college!

Hello all,

My name is Luke. I teach technology to K-8 students in Chicago. I have already taught the code.org K-5 curriculum with several grades last year. Iā€™m looking forward to joining the discussion and enhancing my teaching skills while adding science to my CS teaching.

My name is Jessica. This will be my 18th year teaching Middle School Science.

Hi,

My name is Daniel Adams and I was in the private sector prior to entering the teaching field. I am currently in a K-8 STEM school teaching computers and some computer science and CTE.

Hi, Iā€™m Rod Margason, 8th grade Science teacher in Everett, WA at North Middle School. Iā€™ll be starting my 26th year of teaching this year and have been been teaching Science at the 6-8 grades during that time. Iā€™ve also taught math/science in an integrated format and dabbled a bit in robotics with the First Lego League as a coach the past 3 yearsā€“where the need to understand programming is very important. Beyond that, the last PD work Iā€™ve done with computer programming was using LOGO as way to teach geometry, and I learned alot personally, but really havenā€™t applied much of that knowledge in my day-today teaching.

Iā€™m looking forward to the CS in Science work.

Hello. My name is Leslie Lawson. I started off as an elementary school teacher, and have moved into the exciting world of Middle School math and science 9 years ago. I work in a parent partnership program. My only experience in ā€œcodingā€ is with primary students through the use of their Lego program. I incorporate computer program usage in all of my science classes and am excited to add coding to that list of technology integration to my classes.

I have taught Life Science for 6 years now using he CPO curriculum. I would be interested to learn more about the SeaPup materials. I remember looking at those during our textbook adoption, and found the materials interesting.

Eric,

I spent the last two years teaching CTE courses and was the Robotics Coach for my middle school. It is nice to see someone who also has taught these things.

Hi All,
My name is Pamela, I have been teaching middle school science for 30 years (Wow, its scary and exciting to say/write it out in context! Where does the time go?). I too am excited about opening up and expanding my science curriculum through computer science modules. Too often there are hit and miss sections of bits and pieces of software found to supplement a concept. It will be nice to see a complete set of modules that will eliminate that search and hunt process.

Hello everyone! My name is Hazel Robateau. I just started my teaching March of this year. Currently, I am the 7th and 8th grade science teacher at John D. Shoop Academy on Chicagoā€™s south side. Since Iā€™m a new teacher, I have never taught computer science so I am a tad nervous about starting.
