For the “Wrap Up” where students determine if their protocol can survive a challenge, it’s suggested that teachers pass out an image to one partner. Does anyone have a scan of the images they drew? I know it’s simple, but if I don’t need to generate them then that’s a few more cycles I can spend on something else. Thanks so much

Hi @skenner,

Unfortunately I don’t have scans of images I used, but in terms of ideas, I kept them simple - 3-6 points. It helps to have shapes where the order of points isn’t easily assumed (for five evenly distributed points, a star is less easily assumed compared to a pentagon). Also having shapes that take up most of the graph help make sure students are forced to use larger numbers (and that their protocol accounted for the larger chunk size).

Some nice suggestions. Thanks, Frank

I’m just teaching this lesson now. I went ahead and uploaded the ones I created in a paint program. Hope this helps with future lessons! 🙂

You are welcome! 🙂

Also, did anyone have an odd number of students? How did you handle this short of partnering with a student?

I either have them work in threes (with one pair working together) or I pair up with the student.

That makes sense - I only have six students and one was out yesterday (sick) and is out again today. They’ve already made their protocol and started the work and the groups were pretty deep into the activity. I’ll pair with her today and have her explain her protocol.
