Hello’

My name is Karen Gordon. I recently retired from the state of Missouri as a Middle School Counselor and decided to drive across the state line and begin teaching technology in Kansas. I work in a K-2 building and see all students once every 4 days. This grade level has been a challenge for me but I love a challenge. I actually taught keyboarding back in the 90s a couple years to 7th graders but technology has changed greatly! I wanted to do this course to better prepare myself in teaching students a subject that I have no real background in. I just thought it would be “fun.”

I have recently completed several lessons in Course A just to see what I would be asking of my students. I started looking for possible PD but found the 2 dates closest to me did not work for me. I was excited to see that I could do it online and have a forum to look at.

I can be found on twitter @kleeg2727 and Facebook at Karen Gordon.

Hello,
I am Roenitia Steward in Chapel Hill, North
. I just received facilitator training in Raleigh and work with an after school program in a middle school providing enrichment. I enjoy learning with my students and we work pretty well together. I enjoy singing and reading when not at school.

Hello! My name is Kathy Ramsey. I teach 7th and 8th grade Learning Support at Alderwood Middle School in Lynnwood, Washington. I’m joining this community in order to learn more about coding and how it can help my students in their futures.

My Twitter handle is @KathyRamsey2017. I have completed a few hour of code sessions with students but want to learn more. My favorite ice cream is homemade coconut cinnamon Keto ice cream. Yummy!

Welcome @ramseyk! Your neighbors at Code.org are happy to have you here!

My name is Ellie Kim and I live and work in Lynnwood, Washington. I am new to the district I am currently at. I was hired after the school year started in a 4/5 split class. I am interested in being part of this community, mainly because I student taught/subbed at my current building and had fun on Code.org when teachers have used the program. It created an environment where students felt safe to explore on their own pace and even teach me some tricks.

Hi Jen!

This is Ty Stevenson, and I represent Code’s Washington State regional partner, AVID. I’d love to chat with you more about the Code’s PD and curriculum and help direct you towards the answers of any questions you might have. Off hand, Marianne Costello–and educator in the Edmonds School District–is actually a Code.org facilitator, and might also be a good resource for you. Feel free to contact me at code@avid.org at your convenience and we can set up a time to connect after Thanksgiving.

Looking forward to chatting with you!

Ty Stevenson

My name is Elaine S. McIlroy-Hargrove. I teach Fundamentals in our computer science class to Kindergarten through 5th grade. This is the first year for implementation of this program in Edmond Public Schools.

Last year I taught Discoveries to middle school, 6th through 8th grade, at a private parochial school. There was very little support for the program, and, in fact, the technology position was eliminated, so there went the Discoveries class.

Hey All,

My name is Kurtis Dolman, and I am a School Psychologist working in the Edmonds School District. I work primarily in the K-6 grades, and I am interested in learning more about STEM and continuing my professional development in multiple areas.

Hi ! My name is Adeline. I am teaching French in Malaysia in an International school. Before I was an IT coordinator and I love teaching code. Now I have an after school activity with students from grade 3 to grade 5 who want to learn how to code.

Hello everyone! My name is Renee Wilson and I currently teach 6th grade at Cedar Way Elementary in Mountlake Terrace, WA. I am joining this community as a way to grow professionally and learn more about teaching CS. I have taught CS using code.org in the past, but I switched grade levels this year and thought this PD would be a great opportunity to become more familiar with the curriculum.

Previously, I have taken in-person PD using CS Fundamentals within my school district. Additionally, I have taken courses from Kiki herself at NCCE conferences in Seattle. I earned my Master’s degree in Digital Education Leadership from Seattle Pacific University and studied teaching computer science in my program. I am passionate about using technology effectively in the classroom and teaching my students to be responsible digital citizens!

My favorite thing in life is to travel!
