A native Californian, Mr. Cerruti attended high school at Benedictine High School in Richmond, Virginia and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from Virginia Tech.

While in college Mr. Cerruti worked for Virginia Power writing software for the control of fossil and hydro power plants as well as for the emergency response systems for its two nuclear power plants.

Upon graduation Mr. Cerruti became a contractor for the Naval Research Laboratory writing software for controlling satellites. Through this position he went on to lead the software development for the Naval Satellite Operations Center in Point Mugu, CA and spearhead the software integration of the Air Force Satellite Control System with the Naval Satellite Control System. Mr. Cerruti also did the initial ground station software installation for the Iridium satellite constellation while that system was still under development. Later on in his career he would do additional work on the Iridium ground station software while it was being managed by Boeing.

Mr. Cerruti moved into civilian satellite work doing ground station projects for Istanbul Technical University, the Center for Remote Sensing and Processing at the National University of Singapore and for the Korean Aerospace Research Institute, Korea’s equivalent to NASA.

Mr. Cerruti moved into the Internet space building a custom traffic measurement and billing system for the worldwide network of Digital Island. This system was later acquired by Cable and Wireless. Mr. Cerruti was also employed to build an online video portal to deliver training videos for computer software. Prior to coming to e3, Mr. Cerruti was leading a team that managed the software system used in cell phone refurbishment.

Mr. Cerruti’s association with e3 began with his connection to The League of Amazing Programmers where he remains a volunteer teacher for Java programming. He also enjoys teaching classes for UCSD Extension and Sally Ride Science Junior Academy. Mr. Cerruti brings 30 years of experience in scientific and engineering software development to the teaching of math. Through the use of programming and real world experience he hopes to encourage the pursuit of STEM careers and make math more meaningful for all of e3’s scholars.

Mr. Cerruti is married and has two sons attending high school in North County. He comes from a family of teachers and his wife has taught math for more than 15 years. It was a given that he would take up the family business and he is excited to have found e3, an amazing institution with incredible people, to make that happen.
