Hi everyone. Last year was the first year where I felt like I saw students clearly use A.I. tools to generate code to finish assignments and projects, when I know that they clearly couldn’t explain the specifics of the program. With a new year upon us, I was hoping to hear about some best practices that others use to hold students accountable in terms of making sure they only turn in work that they could explain. Do you do any specific things when it comes to programming assignments versus research assignments or discussion posts? I want to be open to appropriate use of A.I., but also want to make sure students are held accountable. Any thoughts, resources, or anecdotes are greatly appreciated. Best of luck to everyone in the new year!
You are better off making assignments worth less points and making in class tests / quizzes worth more i have answered a similar topic to this you have to emphasize that it is a tool and using it incorrectly will not teach you anything. by changing how scores are distributed you increase the incentive without needing to do much more work someone may be better than explaining it but you could likely show examples of how you can reasonably use it to learn what to do instead of solve this for me
