***Ecosystems STARTER base model REMIX 2015-09-07 20:29:46.089406

This is my fourth expert remix. In this remix, I added a predator species, lions. I added a “lion stalking” procedure to make my lion walk, as well as procedures to reproduce, and die. And I added a collision procedure, in which the lion can kill the rabbit and gain energy. When I added the lion, I also had to add information onto setup of the world, but creating two lions to begin with. Again, I’m still having trouble creating a balanced ecosystem where one species doesn’t completely die out.

[Remixed: Epidemic Model][1]
[1]: http://www.slnova.org/Maki_18/projects/97017/
In this remix, I did the following:

  1. gave an agent the camera
  2. added the following widget: drop pollution
  3. changed the collision response: from pink pyramids to yellow clownfish2
  4. added new breeds: pollution (black spheres) and grass
  5. added a new widget: speed (new slider)
  6. added a new procedure in the “grass” folder, which orders the grass to “wiggle” from left tp right or vice versa when the procedure “wiggle” is toggled (but this doesn’t seem to be working, so I’m going to get back to it and find out what’s wrong.)

This is a scientific model because it shows how living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) factors in an environment interact.

I added 2 widgets to help regulate populations more precisely rather than allowing the computer to take control. Students can use the scientific method and ask themselves the same 7 different actions to change up the simulation and use the process while doing it.

Bunny/Lion REMIX 2015-08-07 12:49:28.302037 I was able to give add several features but I felt it was difficult to remember how I did each thing after I did it because I had no book to refer back to. In class I could keep up with what we were learning but then we would move on and with nothing to refer to it was confusing to replicate it again.

I create ecosystem that consisted of prairie dogs, prairie, with a predator the hawk. I had to reset many times. I also have the wiggle, and one conditional.

http://www.slnova.org/rthompson15/projects/97097/
This is an epidemic module. I added another agent which was an immune agent (white). When they collide with the carrier or healthy agent they will give a certain percentage of immunity. Those agents that got the immunity will turn yellow. I also added a slider that determined the percentage of agents that would receive immunity. Further a camera was added that allowed agent view. Since the blue agents (healthy) quickly became sick upon contact with the infected red agents, I added a code to detect collision of red agents at a proximity of 10. I made some additional changes, but it stopped working when I tried to add a graph.

Within the ecosystems module I changed to an extreme wiggle, added a camera, and another conditional for when to breed. The extreme wiggle for the rabbits allows them to survive longer, and to search for feed better, but they also end up eating the grass much faster. The dragon breeding time was also changed them to require less energy in order to help them survive longer and not die off really quick (which is what was happening). the camera was unsuccessfully added to the dragons and the code would not run. Therefore I need to figure out where to add the camera and /or where my mistake was made. I need to play further with the coding and then I will take a look at the videos and the guide book.

My results make sense as a scientific model because predators do not breed as quick as the prey in real life and their numbers end up dwindling. The prey’s survival depends on the ability to feed and they ended up dying not due to predators but due to lack of food.
This model could be a good one for any type of animal to demonstrate how humans can impact the survival of other organisms since we are killing off the producers and in turn killing off the primary producers.

I had similar problems as well. Lost a lot of changes.

I added procedures and conditionals as well as different breeds and sliders. I think this is more like real life because the resources get consumed and species need/use energy to reproduce. We also set it so you could see some survival of the fittest with different beak and food sizes.

This is all hard work for people unfamiliar with coding.

I added a new a breed to the environment to analyze how this new variable affects the results. In addition I had the new breed (fox) do an extreme wiggle. With the new breed in place, I feel it is going to add a new dimension as to how a contagion is spread throughout the environment. In addition the new breed’s movements are erratic which means there is an increased possibility of collisions in the environment.

Ecosystem and Prairie Dogs REMIX 2015-09-07 23:35:00.
I have an error. However, I can understand. What I was trying to do was to have the hawk eat the prairie dogs so that to how much time would it take to reduce the prairie dogs. WHEN USING THE WORKSHEET to have the model.

I changed a couple things and added an agent.

Added everything and the kitchen sink to this project.

http://www.slnova.org/ndevenuti/projects/98849/

In this project, I gave an agent the camera, added a procedure, added extreme wiggle walk, created an additional breed, added two sliders, and had the turtles detect their collision with the trains.

I took the collision/disease activity to fit my curriculum and was interested to see if I could make an agent “decay” after a certain rate, and that there was a 50% chance it would decay (half-life).

I can give the agent the camera, i added a procedure. Through manipulating the situation I was able to analyze the data. I loved changing to 3D mode and the camera.

I tried to give the lion an extreme wiggle.
