ALL practice or CHOOSE?

and got a response (as always!) from mwood.
But not sure how many non-code.org moderators linger in that forum, so posting here too.

I have used units 2 & 3 and parts of 1 with 8th graders. I have always wondered why the prompt on the Practice pages is to “CHOOSE from the following activities.” It seems like the students would benefit by doing ALL the activities rather than just choosing. It certainly helps with the assessment if they do! Also, it seems like sometimes there is NEW content rather than practicing skills from previous lessons. If it’s “practice” then there should not be anything NEW, yes? Maybe I’m wrong?? How do others handle it? Do you let them choose? Do you have them do them all? Or, as mwood suggests in the original post, do you sometimes have them do more than one depending on situation\skill??
