I’m trying to think of an alternative for the Unit 2 | The Internet project. I’m looking for something that allows students to connect their understanding of the workings of the Internet (protocols, networks, etc.) in a way that allows them to express their creativity and explore how the Internet impacts them. I feel like unless the students pick the “digital divide”, the project’s dilemmas don’t overlap too much with the AP curriculum; plus, the U2 project is very similar to the U1 project in that they both are more research/one-pager style projects as opposed to the hands-on projects they’ll do later in the course.
Open to any ideas!

Did you find a new project? I had them do a jigsaw with the topics, but the project seems redundant.
I got some ideas and feedback from some former students and what we came up with is students creating some sort of educational artifact that explains the layers of the internet to a non-technical audience. They need to turn the “layers of the Internet” document into some sort of artifact - a poster, a children’s storyboard, an infomercial, etc. - that can teach their non-tech-savvy target audience how the Internet works.
Some students have started the project and come up with some creative ideas, with one student coding an interactive game that teaches players on the layers of the Internet, and another student writing a children’s book using a mailman as an analogy for the layers of the Internet.
We’ll see how this actually works out!
