I have a students who uses an ASL translator in my middle school coding class. We are currently working through Lesson 12 in Unit 2 Web design and she is having a hard time with translating some of the language with learning Flexbox. She is trying to learn how to code right along with him and but there is no translation or signs and she is finding herself having to spell everything out which gets hard for both her and my student.
We have looked at many resources and have come to the conclusion that we may have to make up our own signs for the HTML/CSS coding language.
Has anyone found good resources or create anything to accomidate their ASL student?
I had a teacher from a school for the deaf attend one of my CSD workshops. She herself was deaf and we had several interpreters join us for the week. The interpreters would look over our slides ahead of time and discuss with the teacher, their client, how they were going to communicate the different terms that go along with CS. I don’t know the ASL signs that go with the different terms, but that was the way they worked it out together. The interpreters would sometimes ask us to clarify during breaks too. We just sort of worked it out together.
