Can I use New Project >> Game Lab to make and share an assessment for my students?

I would like to code some programs to assign for my students to assess their progress. We’re working in Unit 3 Games and will have completed Lessons 1-14 before their semester final.

For their midterm exam I assigned them a project to code during our exam time, and had them code it in the Robot Face area. I typed out all of the directions on paper and they coded it. However, I would rather have them read directions given as notes in the code. Now we’re animating, so this would be even more useful.

In addition, I would love to be able to have code already written for them to debug as part of their final exam, as well as have them code using the note prompts instead of going back and forth between paper and keyboard.

I see that I can “share” something I make in New Project >> Game Lab. Please give me some guidance on how I could build some code in there and share it to assess them!

I have done this with my 7th graders. You need to go to manage class and enable them to share. I then have them share their links with me via Google Classroom.

Thanks for your reply! Just to clarify, how did you share your code with them- was it through Classroom?

I assume that I can do that and ask them to click “Remix,” do the work, and then from your reply they just share the link back to me in Classroom?

Yes. I would code something in the projects in my case we are using web lab for grade 6, game lab grade 7, app lab grade 8. So I would create something g and share with them via google classroom, they would open and use remix. Then when they create their own items in projects I would have them post the link in a doc to me in google classroom. Made it easier for me to organize for grading and giving feedback.

I do wish there was a way to do all that in code.org but alas not every program is perfect.
