Course D (2019) problem with Graph Paper Programming

I just ran the Graph Paper Programming lesson with the new sheets. The students had no problems with the assessment, but the Activity Worksheet caused major issues.

Having the steps in a grid pattern greatly confused them and many hard a hard time (especially as 3rd graders) transitioning their brain to realize that it was just an ordered list of steps and NOT a grid for drawing.

On the assessment page, the steps are written out in two long rows that in no way resembles the grid they are drawing.

I think changing the activity to be more like the assessment would help a lot.

Thanks @mbrzezowski! That feedback is really helpful. Getting used to the how steps are read can be tough for new learners. I will pass your suggestion on to the curriculum team.

We had that same problem. After two classes struggling with this, I made copies of the worksheet without the step boxes and had them write the steps themselves in a linear fashion. This was much less confusing for my students.
