I did a hilarious warm up today (we teach this as a 1 semester course), and thought y’all might enjoy trying it out. Students had to design (on the whiteboards) a flowchart to explain to an adult when it is/is not appropriate to use a gen Z slang term (each group chose a different term). Here’s the outline of the task.
If anyone else needs some levity - they were all into it. (I take no responsibility for derailing your class with laughter.) The task outline below:
Create a Decision-Making Flowchart
Your flowchart must:
-
Start with:
“Should I use the term ‘____’?” -
Include at least:
-
4–6 decision diamonds
-
Yes/No branches
-
At least one compound condition (AND / OR)
-
At least one “Do NOT use it” ending
-
-
Clearly define:
-
Who can say it
-
When it’s appropriate
-
When it’s awkward/cringe
-
What it actually means
-
-
End every path with:
-
Use it correctly (include example sentence) -
Do NOT use it -
Proceed with caution
