Digital Journal and Partnered Programming

Good day!
I’m a new teacher to CSP, and would love some advice from those who have done digital journals. How do you find they work when doing partnered programming? I’m trying to envision Unit 1, Lesson 5 (Overflow and Rounding). Do you have the student without a computer open and close their own through the lesson in order to type?
I love the idea of the digital journal from an access and respond standpoint, but am having a tough time with the logistics of it during other activities.
