More confusion about the Activity

We were doing this activity today and I realized that the students can’t determine if the squares are touching or not since they are only given one of the coordinates.
In the following photo, you can see that without knowing the other coordinate, you can not really determine if the squares are touching or not. In the first picture they are not touching, in the second picture, they are touching. Is this part of the activity?

Students are supposed to draw the squares on the bottom (bolded) line. You might want them to read the instructions aloud in class if you think they’ll skip over that part. It’s not as realistic as doing it in two dimensions, but solving the two dimensional problem was overly complicated for their first go at it.
