The Pixel size of the pencil tool in the animation tab has changed. The small is 1 x 1 ; the second size is now 4 x 4 ; the third size is 8 x 8 ; and the largest size is 12 x 12.
Before the change, it went 1 x 1, 2 x 2, 3 x 3, 4 x 4.

To get the size you want, you could choose the size up from what you want and use the eraser tool to make it smaller. For example, if you wanted 2x2, choose the 4x4 and then erase half of it.
This makes it slightly more work for 2x2 and 3x3, but then gives more options for the pencil if someone wanted a wider pencil width. And also provides the option of drawing a thicker line with varying width. For example, drawing an 8x8 and then erasing 2-4 leaving a line that is 4-6 wide.
Hey @koliner ,
I looked into this and yes - you’re correct! The animation tool used to have smaller dimensions, and now has 1x1, 2x2, 4x4, and 16x16.
We made this change based on some accessibility and usability feedback. We also widened the default canvas size to make it easier when creating new sprites, but some of our older sprites with smaller dimensions may be a bit harder to work with. If you have any specific feedback about this feature, please email support@codeorg so our team can hear about it!
Cheers,
