Hi There!
My name is Jessica
NJ- Middle School
I would like to learn more about unconscious bias to make my classroom a welcoming place for all students.
Name: Cathie
Teaching Context: Pittsburgh, PA, Grades 6-8
My Intention:
Hello everyone! I’m excited to join this community of CS educators. My intention for taking this course is to critically examine my current teaching practices in our required 6th and 7th grade CS courses to identify and remove unintentional barriers for underrepresented students. I’m particularly focused on developing strategies that will encourage more diverse participation in our 8th grade Python electives.
Currently, all our 6th and 7th graders take required CS courses, but when they reach 8th grade, Python becomes optional. I’m noticing patterns in who chooses to continue and who doesn’t, and I want to ensure I’m creating pathways that feel accessible and appealing to all students, especially those from groups traditionally underrepresented in computer science.
I’m looking forward to learning from others’ experiences and gathering new ideas to make my CS program more equitable from start to finish!
Hello,
My name is Tylor. I teach computer science in Colorado at the 6-12 grade level. I am currently the department lead for CS in my school. My intention in taking this course is to improve my ability to bring equity and justice to the classroom and to add tools to my toolkit to that end. I intend to make my classroom one where everyone feels welcome and has what they need to access the content and be successful in the field of computer science.
