Updates for New APCSA?

Hi @states_z ,

Thank you for posting this to the forum. This would be frustrating for students and teachers when the activity requires students to use material that has not been covered yet. This is feedback our curriculum team needs to know as they iron out this “new” course. One of the best ways to let the curriculum team know there is an issue with the lesson is to utilize the “rate this lesson” button on the right hand side of the lesson when you are on the unit landing page.

As far as what to do in the meantime, I really like your idea of utilizing the sandbox. I hope that others in our community that come across this post also provide some helpful alternatives.

-Best,

Sam

This is what I’m finding as well. With that and the lack of resources for the CED version, I will be switching to CSAwesome2 at the end of Unit 1. I am incredibly frustrated with the CED aligned version.

Lesson 12 throws out instance variables like we’ve covered it already. I’m having to back-teach and it is clear that this was just a shuffling of content without thought to how it would actually work in a classroom.

I’m frustrated also – i assumed when the title of this course was 25-26, it had been updated to full CED, since the main units are aligned. i’m finding that the lessons and code projects are not. Even though inheritance has been dropped from the CED, there is a lesson on inheritance that is required for subsequent lessons.

I also found in lesson 18 level 5, the request for students to write conditional (if then else) code that has not been covered so far.

Hi @julie.kirkpatrick and @jack.boyd , I completely understand your frustrations and I can’t thank you enough for bringing your specific qualms to the forum. I will pass this all along to the curriculum team by utilizing the “Rate this lesson” button in hopes that they will make appropriate efforts to improve the lessons.

-Best,

Sam
