CSA 2.1 Exemplar

I like the ideas behind the new lesson 2.1 (Program Design), though it’d be very helpful if the activity had an exemplar/key for the UML diagrams. Has anyone generated or come across one? Thanks!

Hi Christian,

I worked on the first example with my students, and typed this up with them. I think one thing to consider is that there is not one right answer for these, we considered what the best ways of representing the methods would be, and there was some disagreement among my students in terms of what would work the best. But hopefully this gives you the idea:

We didn’t have time, but I thought a way of doing this could be to have different teams write the UML diagrams for the same prompt and do a gallery walk or presentations to notice the similarities and differences in how they set up their classes.

Best,

Lindsay

Thanks for providing this, Lindsay! Yeah, I recognize that answers will vary, but I think it’s nice to have an exemplar to throw up on the board as we close out the discussion. I do a similar thing when they do the vocabulary concept maps–it’s nice to have an example to show them, even if there are alternative solutions.

Yeah, the way I ended up executing it was to have student partner groups just draw their diagram on the back of the worksheet (skipping the poster), then pair up with another group who picked the same option and discuss/analyze the differences between their formulations.

Cheers and thanks!
Christian
