My students got through the variables lesson, but I don’t feel like they actually understand what variables are all about. Has anyone created or come across any extension activities to make this more relatable to students?
Hi Lindsey @lkay
That’s a good question. I am sure that I sometimes teach stuff like this and then zip past it not realizing the kids didn’t get it. I do know that in CS Fundamentals there is a variables activity that may work to help your kids understand variables better. It’s here if you want to look at it: https://curriculum.code.org/csf-19/coursef/6/ It’s a bit elementary, but I think that’s not a bad thing. My 9th graders love it when we do “Kindergarten Day” for some of our lessons … (drawing, etc.)
I’m also sure there are other resources outside of code.org that would work. I personally don’t know of any, but maybe someone else has a good idea?
If this works for you and you give it a try, I’d love to hear how it goes.
@lkay I just wanted to check in to make sure you have what you needed.
