We are doing the 5.12 Random Forcaster app. I am curious how you would grade this assignment.
It technically works but this student doesn’t really filter lists. How would you grade this? What would you mention to help improve it?

Hi @jlester,
What scoring criteria are you using to grade this assignment for all your students? I prefer to score all projects against the same rubric or guidelines so they can see exactly why they are (or are not) earning certain points.
Did you explicitly tell them that they had to filter lists in order to reach their desired outcome? If so, I would support you in being a “not-so-generous” grader as they did not include that.
One thing I noticed is that the project you linked did not include any comments from the student. So, now I am left wondering whether they cleverly found a way to make their code work, or if they just stumbled backwards into it. Including comments would go a long way toward explaining their reasoning.
Along with that, did you have the students fill out any worksheets / journals / reflection questions? Writing about their code is great practice for the Create Task, and it gives you a glimpse into their thought process as they constructed the code. I would recommend written responses being required with the code to help you in your assessment.
Hope that helps,
