Nested HTML Tags or Not...?

Question: Why use the

tag for a list when you only really need the
  • ?

I read that the

    and
    tags take nested
  1. tags.

However, when I comment out the

    tags with nested
  • tags, save and refresh, the bullet points of the items list remain visible. Therefore, they don’t seem to me to act like nested tags because they really do not need the
to exist. (This is not true for
nest because the items lose their order when
        is commented out.)

The reason I ask is because my students will discover that for a bulleted list, you really don’t need the

      tags.

      Thank you!

May,

You can use the individual < li > for a list item, but generally, and for more control, you want to organize them as ordered (< ol >) or unordered (< ul >) so you can style them with CSS.

Hope that helps!
