Go back to the Equity in Computer Science Self-Paced Professional Learning Course

While 75% of Pennsylvania high schools now offer computer science courses, our district’s middle schools remain significantly underserved with only 28% offering CS education—creating a critical gap precisely when student interest and diversity in CS peaks nationally. The data shows middle school CS participation achieves nearly double the gender diversity of high school programs (44% vs. 32.5% female participation) and better represents students with IEPs and English language learners, making strategic investment in our middle school CS program the most cost-effective way to build a truly diverse and inclusive computing pipeline that will directly strengthen our high school outcomes.
