Students loved the data sleuth sites. This lesson went long because we re-capped as a class and explored each site a bit together. It generated a lot of questions from the class
In fact, I was thinking next year, I might use this lesson/unit earlier in the year since it really made students think more critically about data. I had my students do the explore task at semester and their critical lens toward data/uses was weak at best. I think using something like Question Formulation Technique for any one of these resources might help students engage more into data.
Honestly, I expected the data unit to be pretty dry but students are LOVING digging into the data. I keep phrasing it as a “look for a story” activity which I think students enjoy - they can relate a lot to telling stories.
