Best Practice Unit 5: Lesson in this unit: Day 18 - 20: Mean, Median, Minimum, Maximum, Histograms, Box Plots
The Mean, Medium and the Mode Unit 5. I adapated a lesson plan from Education World: http://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/03/lp293-02.shtml
This lesson is excellent for teaching the subject area. I incorporated the Excel Spreadsheet training, and students transferred their data into the spreadsheet in order to watch the mean medium and mode change when new data was entered.
Advanced students wrote a little program in Excel with an if then statement to see how the outcome was manipulated based on the data
The lesson is great to adapt to all learnersājust let them eat the candy afterwards, providing they donāt have a medical conditionācheck with your school nurse to find out
Extention/Integration: Show Relevance: I think it will be more interesting to use Snap Chat ā the number of videos viewed a day, or the number of filters that you changed or used in a week. Create MeMeās to explain the Mean, Medium, and the Mode. Use the Bottle Toss and really put in statistical dataāstudents toss the bottle all the time. Excel - Have students learn the Data Tab in Excel with the What If Analysis along with charts.
