I have a blind student in my AP CS A class. Is the curriculum accessible for my student? Are there any adjustments I must make?
I have discovered that the slides we are expected to use for CSA are not accessible. They at the very least do not have alt text for the visuals and they don’t seem to be formatted correctly for screen readers. Has anyone else worked on the slides for make them more accessible?
Hi Myra,
Thank you for starting this thread. Each level has its instructions ready to be read out loud if you click on the icon that looks like a speaker at the top.
I am not sure of what else is in place in the curriculum to help blind and visually impaired students. I had a student who was blind in a math class a few years ago, and sent worksheets to a person in our district who transcribed them into Braille for the student to use. I’m curious if your school district has a support like this in place?
For CSA, the study guides and the end of unit syntax guides might be easier than the slides for a screen reader to read without having to modify their format.
I will reach out to the curriculum team to see if they have other resources or suggestions for you.
Best,
Lindsay
Yes, we have a person that transcribes documents to Braille. It is about a 4 week turn around. Thank you for the tip about the speaker icon. I will show that to my student.
Thank you for your help,
