Course Recommendations

Hello everyone,

I have 2 new students (one ELL-Mandarin as a first language) who have joined the CSP class. Since we’re already in our 4th quarter, I am looking for any code.org courses that they can undertake in a self-directed, which will allow me the time to focus on the AP students. In particular, any that have material in Chinese (Mandarin).

Thank you for your recommendations.

Hi @yobeng,

Getting students at the end of the year can be such a challenge for both the teacher and student!

At the bottom of most of the Code.org curriculum, usually located in the footer, is the language dropdown. The student can choose mandarin from this option. I will tell you - this does not translate all the text on the page! With that said, I had a Vietnamese student in my CSP course and she did quite well with this option in addition to her using Google Translate on her phone. Google translate now has a lens feature where if you hold the phone up to the page, it will translate all the text viewed through the lens. Do your students have phones with Google Translate?

You could use one of Code.org’s other curriculum with the students with the language option but that means you would be absolutely unfamiliar with it. I am wondering if you let the students just complete some of the coding units in CSP. I would suggest:

  1. Intro to App Lab
  2. Then CSPs Intro to App Design Unit 3
  3. Give them a project or app to build
  4. Have them move on to Unit 4 if you need to.

Other’s may have ideas as well. Best wishes and good luck to you and your students on the AP exam.
