I was able to borrow an older set of micro:bits through our county office, but they are the V1 micro:bits. Will they still work with the code.org platform? I believe the only difference is that they do not have a built in speaker or microphone.

Yes. According to this documentation, the V1 should work with the maker units and Code.org. Be sure to read further down the page where it states: “Once you have your device, visit the Maker Setup page to install special software that allows your micro:bit to work with our website.”
