Teacher at a Catholic school here in the FL panhandle. My plan is to teach this course next year in middle school as an intro course for HS credit. There are so many computer classes before CS Principles in the high school catalog, and I can’t see which code really fits for CS Discoveries.
Is anyone here teaching CSDiscoveries as the intro HS class? What state, and which course code? This may help me figure things out.
I’ve done a search through all the topics on this website and no one seems to be doing the intro HS path with CS Discoveries in FL on here.
Hope you all can steer me in the right direction!
Thanks,
Susie
Hi,
I’m in Broward County Public Schools in Florida.
We offer CS Discoveries as the first high school course (in 8th or 9th grade) using the course code for Advanced Information Technology. This is our progression, note that the Coding Fundamentals course is new for 2018-19.
6th grade – Coding Fundamentals 9009200
7th grade – Fundamentals of Web and Software Development 9009500
8th grade – Advanced Info Tech 9007610M (high school credit) (using Code.org CS Discoveries curriculum)
High School:
Advanced Info Tech 9007610
AP Computer Science Principles 0200335
Foundations of Programming Honors 9007210
AP Computer Science A 0200320
Thank you so much! This will be very helpful to us!
@milenkovic - With this number, I was able to find the docs from the state. I looked at the progression file from FLDOE and at first wondered why your district didn’t choose to name the course Foundations of Programming 9007210
But then I saw that they do Foundations of Programming Honors after AP CSP, so that made sense!
How does your school handle the requirements to cover “spreadsheets, presentation applications, management of personal information and email, word processing and document manipulation” ? I will barely have time to cover the curriculum material in CSD!!
