Module 5, Level 29 - Wrap-Up

Post and discuss your response to the final reflection question - What did you achieve in this PL? What do you still want to learn? What are the next steps for you along this journey?

I’m excited to keep trying AI! There’s a lot more to learn here, but I’d like to keep using it to help me plan lessons and brainstorm ideas. Not sure if I’m ready for much more than that right now.

Originally, I had written that I hope to learn more about AI so I can be more informed when it comes to opportunities to use it and the different types of programs that exist to use in the education field. I feel as though i achieved this goal. I was able to explore programs like ChatGPT, Diffit, and MagicSchoolAI. I want to continue to learn how I can structure activities for students to use AI within stations or lessons in the classroom. In order to accomplish this, since I’m currently serving as a learning strategist and I’m not in the classroom, I might work on creating opportunities for teachers to utilize AI in professional learning sessions that I conduct. I also want to work on improving my prompting skills and create specific prompts that request the AI serve a certain role and interact with the user as they enter information into the system.

My goal was to learn what resources were available for my students and how to teach about those resources in the classroom. I believe this was achieved. I know at least six new websites that look useful in some way, shape, or form. My chief concern is, despite teaching appropriate use, students will misuse the resources. I know some cheating is inevitable–cheating is much older than AI–but I’d like to minimize it so kids go out into the world prepared. Next steps are to try to incorporate some of these new resources into my classroom.

What I listed as my goal was this: “My goals for this course would be to find new ways to implement the use of AI in my classroom to allow students to use it but within parameters, and also to maybe figure out ways how to get students to be more ethical with its use.” I actually achieved both my goals within these 5 units of this course. Both were highlighted; I was given some great ideas about new ways to use generative AI in my classroom, but I was also made aware in ethical ways to use AI, especially when it comes to bias and how it happens. My next steps are to give it a try and use it to generate content for class. You can’t learn without attempting it.

I achieved my first goal of learning how AI works. My second goal was to learn how to use AI in my teaching so that I can be more effiecient and I think I did get ideas on how to use AI in my teaching. My last goal was to learn how to teach AI to my elementary students and to show them ethical ways to use it. I think that I also met this goal because I was able to see ways I can teach my students ethical use of AI and a few ways to teach students how AI works. I really liked the AI for Oceans lesson that teachings the concept of AI in a ways that elementary students can understand. I think there is always more to learn and I would love to learn more ways to integrate AI in elementary school. The next steps for me are to use AI more when I’m planning lessons and activities as well as plan for ways my students can use AI.

I believe that I did achieve my overall goals. I had wanted to see how to use AI to benefit my own role as a teacher, and, like I said in the last question, I feel I definitely did this. I can see how to use AI to help write emails to parents, write lesson plans, assist in writing IEPs if necessary, write comprehension questions to texts…the uses are really substantial. Beyond that, I wanted to learn how to teach my students to use AI responsibly, and I think I got a lot of strategies to do that, as well. I think I still want to learn other ways I can use AI to assist with my teaching responsibilities. I know there have to be more out there! Finally, I think the next steps for me are going to be to really dive into what our district’s policies about AI are, and, more importantly, my school site. I honestly don’t know what our policies are, so I need to look into that before moving forward with any of these applications.

I feel like I met my goals that I set for this course. I wanted to learn more about how I can have AI help me with my teacher responsibilities. I now use Magic School AI to assist me with my newsletters, emails, lesson plans, rubrics and assessments. I use Magic School AI to assist in making my art lessons Culturally Responsive and with attention to Universal Design. Using this tools gives me ideas to what I can offer my students and helps me to be more creative in my lessons. I know this might sound crazy but I feel more in control of my classroom now. I feel supported. These tools have given me energy and I am really excited to find more ways that I can use these tools to help my students learn.

My goal was to learn as much as I can retain about AI. What I learned throughout this course will help me develop lesson plans, organize activities and games, as well as incorporating exercises and workouts within my classes. I focused on understanding the Chat GPT program, which I feel can greatly improve my overall lessons as well as add more dimensions to my teachings. I still want to learn about other programs, but didn’t want to become overwhelmed. Once I feel comfortable integrating Chat GPT within my lessons, I’ll work on adding more AI to my “tool belt” like VEO to analyze videos in sports and physical education as well as PhysiApp where I can assign personalized exercises to students and be able to track their progress. I can’t wait to start incorporating what I have learned into creating more engaging and fun lessons.

The goals I had for this course were 1) I want to learn more about AI and how to teach students to use it responsibly. 2) I am interested in learning about ways to implement AI in my classroom as well as potentially teach other teachers about it. AI is important for students to learn about and learn to use as it is not going away. 3) I would also like to learn how to integrate it in my teaching practices in order simplify my teaching life…just not sure exactly how yet.

I think I succeeded in achieving all three of my goals. The course taught me how to teach students to use it responsible and in different ways, ways to implement AI in my classroom. I’m super excited to use Adobe Express and Labs.Google as well as Magic School AI for student engagement and educational brain breaks. Musical Canvas is really neat and makes student drawings come to life. I would love to have students simply doodle for a brain break and have music accompany it. I still want to learn more about AI and its place in education. The next steps along my journey will to be to take more classes. I have various certifications on my teaching license and would love to have an AI certification as well. I will look into more classes and programs that could make this a reality.

My goals were to learn about AI so that I could host AI Nights for my school, and to learn about AI so I could support teachers in the general education classroom. I feel like I achieved my first goal because I have concrete resources to teach students (such as the differences among AI [machine learning, large language models, etc], games to play with students [such as the Quick Draw game], and have now experienced writing prompts with generative AI for student use). I feel like I achieved my second goal because I have concrete resources to both teach with AI (such as using generative AI to create learning materials or using educational-specific AI for educational goals) and to help support homeroom teachers who may feel anxious through the lesson plans from CTRL-F and NewsWise. I still want to learn about making activities that use AI to assist in the activity rather than avoiding AI or only teaching it as a self-contained concept. The next step in my journey is making space for AI literacy in my long-range plans, since I only have a limited amount of time with students and very few lessons to actually reach all my teaching goals.

I started this class to learn more about AI as I am just starting my journey into AI tool and their abilities. My goal was met and surpassed in this class. I am better prepared to introduce some tools to my students and let them try their hand at using AI. I had a lot of fun exploring tools I did not even know existed before taking this class. I have so much to learn. I really want to explore some of my favorite tools a little more and put them into action. My first step is to start by introducing and using 1-2 tools/resources I have used in this class. I want to make sure that my students and myself are comfortable with 1-2 tools before adding a lot of different tools.

My original goal was “I want to be able to use tools to save time when I create my lesson plans, so AI would help out a lot.” I learned that even though I know a lot about AI, there is always something new on the horizon & how it will affect education. My next step is to explore other AI tools that I can use in my classroom & see how I can implement it within the scope of the district policies & federal/state laws.

My initial response was: I am hoping to learn more about AI and how it can help me to become a better teacher. I am hoping to get a better grasp on using AI in education and guiding my students as they learn more about it.
I feel like this course gave me a much better understanding of what AI is. It also gave me practical tips on using AI in my classroom and introduced me to a ton of resources that I will definitely use.
I want to spend more time exploring the platforms mentioned in this course and see how they can help me to be a better teacher. I am going to share with my fellow teachers what I have learned and encourage them to embrace AI and not to be afraid of it The possibilities are endless and I am excited to continue learning and pass on what I have learned to the students in my classroom.

My goals: I want to better understand how to use AI with my lesson planning.
I want to understand how students can use AI in writing assignments, making it their own thoughts.

What did you achieve? I am comfortable in using AI to create lesson plans, rubrics, readings, and questions for my students.

What do you still want to learn? I need more information about how to implement AI for student usage. I know there will always be a few who try to cheat the system, but I am not comfortable having students use it.

What are the next steps for you along this journey? More training on how to implement it for student use and assignments.

In this course I worked toward my original objectives. I have gained a basic understanding of how AI works that I could explain it to my students, I had a chance to practice using AI to speed up my work, and we did talk about concerns of students abusing AI. As far as what I would still like to learn, I would like to know more about my school districts policy on AI use- I had not considered the privacy aspects before. I would also like to go further with my learning how AI works - beyond the simplest conceptual level. My next step will be speaking to the school’s learning strategist about the districts view and watching some of the Ted Talks on AI that I bookmarked from this class.

When I went back, I saw that these were my goals…
My goals for AI:

  1. To help find effective images for non-linguistic representation (vocabulary words, concepts, and skills) to support my second language learners and students who are struggling.
I found some great sources that provided visuals and images, but I need to do some more work to find better AI generated artwork. I was not a fan of these AI programs and found it more time efficient to use google to pull images for my vocabulary words. However, I did learn that I can use AI to help me scaffold and differentiate instruction which visuals are a form of scaffolds so this is why I am adding this to my reflection. I actually had no clue AI would be capable of identifying misconceptions that my little learners might experience during a unit and to provide activities and scaffolds was mind blowing for me.
  2. To help make my report card comments sound friendly but professional.
I can say this was another area where my mind was blown and I had so much fun playing around with ChatGPT. The way it drafted a letter to my parents with all the details I wanted was really cool. I also loved how it included emojis as well and even though I needed to make some tweaks to it. It really would save me a lot of time in our busy hectic work day. I am excited to use this more often.

Looking back to my original goals for this course I can happily say I met all of my goals! I talked about wanting to reduce the time I spend planning. This course provided some great resources for different programs to use and gave me the time to sit with each one to find what I like and don’t like. The course also allowed me to create appropriate scaffolds and different-leveled texts which was important to me at the beginning of this course. I wrote that for my students I want to teach them to use it responsibly. I think the course also hit this and provided insight into what I should focus on when having these conversations with students. I think this is still an area I can grow in and continue to research the best ways to go about the topic of AI and using AI with students. The next step for me in this journey is to now look at AI sources that follow laws and guidelines outlined through policies,

For this course, I’m hoping to learn about some ways AI tools can be used for both teachers and students. I’m also hoping to learn about what AI tools are out there. I’m sure there’s a variety, but I only know about and have dabbled in a couple.
I achieved much of what I stated in the previous question - I learned a lot of tools available in Magic School AI. I learned about a drawing AI tool, which was pretty awesome to dabble with, and I could see using that in presentations to help me create images when I can’t quite find what I’m looking for. I still want to learn about AI tools for specific content areas. For instance when they reference “there’s an AI for that” like “there’s an app for that”, it makes me wonder what else is out there. I’ve heard there are AI tools for helping write reference letters, but what else is there? My next steps are to seek out more PD on AI tools, and find more ways to incorporate AI into planning, lessons, and differentiating specifically.

I have partially achieved both of the goals. I learned how AI works and how to implement it in the classroom. The next step is to continue learning about AI by taking more professional development classes.
