Hi! Joanne Davis here, I’ve retired from 20+ years in software development and will hold my first “Code Cafe” at my local elementary school (in Loudoun County VA) tomorrow using Code.org. I’m excited to see where the kids take us! The first Cafe is a short 4 week (4 hour) intro, then we’re hoping there will be interest for several longer sessions in the coming months and over the summer. Many of the students have already completed the Hour of Code in December and loved it!
Howdy,
My name is Lo-Ra Dick and I am a science teacher for middle school through high school. I love project based learning and look forward to integrate learning to code. personally i hated coding in college (They still had a few cards laying around). But this is cool, dynamic and rewarding. I want to be a kid again and learn it all new. Well then, might as well teach it.
Hi all, I’m Sean. We are done with our simple basics of computing (using programs they’ll need for college/careers) and wanted to use the rest of the year getting into CS.
My name is Lisa and I live in Lincoln, NE. I’m a web application developer for a software company. I have started a computer club at my daughter’s elementary school for 3rd-5th graders. I’ve already run one 8 week session and I’m getting ready to start a new one. I’d love to make this one even better!
Hello!
I too do a volunteer computer club in elementary! How is yours going?
@ialmoutaa I am hosting the CS club locally
@oobbles cool! Ours is going good so far. Currently we have 10 kids in it. Yesterday was just our second meeting. Most of the students are in 5th grade but it’d be really cool to get younger students involved too. Interestingly, we have a 3rd grader (just one) in the club and he has written the most lines of code. How is your club going? I read you have already completed an 8-week session. How did that go?
It went well! I did googles- https://www.cs-first.com/ with third and fourth graders. We do one hour a week. I’m starting another unit, but this time I am just doing fourth and fifth graders (with the exception of a few third graders from the first session). I find that at third grade, some of the needed typing, spelling and comprehension skills just aren’t where they need to be for the particular curriculum I’m doing.
I didn’t realize Code.org had a Teaching Computer Science Fundamentals course for adults, so I’m excited to run through that before starting my next club session.
Hi~ my name is Kathy and I work at Grass Lake School in Antioch, IL. I am in the instructional technology coach at my school. I am interested in this community and course because I want to offer a coding course over the summer to our students. My favorite ice cream is Chocolote Moose Tracks!

Hi! I’m Mehal and am one of the engineers at Code.org. I love Computer Science and look forward to helping teachers bring it to this generation of kids.
Mehel,
Welcome! I’m sure the teachers in this forum have a lot of questions for you! Thanks for your work with Code.org to help teachers educate the future!

Hi everyone! My name is Christine and I live in Marietta, Georgia (a suburb 20 minutes from Atlanta). I’ve been a teacher for the last decade or so and have decided to re-introduce myself to coding since my students cannot get their hands off of technology and, I married a software engineer.
When I’m not working with children, I love hiking with my husband, pretending I’m a chef, and taking part in calligraphy/LEGO/reading time! I enjoy using this platform and cannot wait to learn more about coding and the code.org community!

Hi I’m LaVonda. I’m a Technology Teacher in Prince George’s County Maryland. I attended a great Code.org workshop in Northern Virginia a few weeks ago. I just attended a Google Summit this weekend. I’m fired up about continuing to use code.org and incorporating all of the great tech integration tools I’ve amassed. I’m looking forward to getting lots more ideas and resources from this community of amazing educators.
My name is Judy Scheurman
I teach at in Orem, Utah
10-12 grades
I’m interested in teaching Exploring Computer Science
I currently teach AP Computer Science through TEALS
Hello! My name is Bernadette Armstrong. I live in Flagstaff, AZ and commute daily 80 miles north to work on the Navajo Nation. I am a fifth grade math and science teacher. I am interested in this community because the students I work with are very much tech savvy and I can see how they could benefit from coding.
I grew up in the age of technology, basically I lived in arcades. I took my first computer programming class in high school and failed drastically; not because I wasn’t able, but I thought I was going to play games and lost interest. Terrible…anyways, I am a teacher who loves to work with technology and want to take my students to a higher level through coding. My fave ice cream is Neapolitan yogurt, yummy! Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I hope I will be able to connect with some of you!

Hello,
My name is Theresa Adriansz and I am the Education Support Teacher at Swanbourne Primary School in Western Australia. I teach students with learning difficulties ranging in age from 7-12 and we started playing around with code.org today and the kids really loved it! It is fantastic the way children with limited reading ability are still able to take part in puzzle solving and logical thinking activities while other students can move ahead to plan and play their own games.
My students are really looking forward to creating their own games and playing with computer code after only one lesson.
Cheers
Theresa
Greetings Coders
My name is Scott Watson. I teach robotics at Hunter High School in West Valley City Utah. I teach grades 9 through 12 with coding extensively integrated into the courses I teach. My own coding background and experience goes back over 4 decades originating from a 2 decade career in the military. My coding experience is extensive spanning from binary code (assembly language) through common programming languages like Java and C++ to uncommon languages like Atlas, ADA, LabVIEW, and Ladder Logic. My interest in the group is driven by my passion - schools competition robotics team (VEX, FTC, FRC, Multiplo, BattleBots, etc.) which becomes more dependent on quality coding every year.

Hi all,
My name is Robb Christopherson and I come to you from the Central Valley of California. I am a proud member of the Clovis Unified School District. Clovis is a suburb of Fresno and has been named “The Best Place to Raise a Family in California” two years running. Our district is always growing and we currently serve more than 41,000 students. I serve at the District Office as the Administrator for STEM programs and 21st Century Learning for Pre-K to Adult Ed. I’ve worked at all levels and most recently as the principal at one of our elementary schools.
Our schools participated in the Hour of Code last year and it grew exponentially this year. We have IT-Coaches who facilitate technology and digital fluency standards and they have been instrumental in making coding another language for our kids to learn.
I have very little personal experience with coding and am taking the online PD course offered by code.org. If it is something that is important for my kiddos to learn, it’s also important for me to learn right along with them.
I look forward to networking with others and to learn as much as possible to help provide my students with skills that will extend long after they leave our system. It’s the right thing to do!
I tried to upload a pic of my family, which includes my amazing wife, Kari, and our 10 wonderful children. The system, unfortunately, wouldn’t let a “new user” post a picture!
I really want to really get Twitter to work for me…but I haven’t had much success with this form of social media. Maybe I’m just too old!
