Welcome! Please introduce yourself

My name is Michael. I am a primary school teacher in Scotland. This year, I have had the opportunity to work with 9 - 11 year olds and introduce them to using technology to create an interactive product. We started with Powerpoint and ‘actions’ and moved to code.org, where we are now, and will take a short break to work with Sway.
I also work this year with a company called Sumdog; they make online maths and reading games. I developed the curriculum for maths and reading for 15 standards across the world. Working with them really helped me to see the importance of coding and computing for future education and employment.
I am interested in this to expand my knowledge base as well as to make contact with other learnings on a similar journey.

My name is Toni. I live in Raleigh, NC and teach at Green Leadership & World Languages Magnet Elementary School --I know, a very long name! I teach first grade and have done so for 20 years. I have organized my school’s first Hour of Code event which will be Monday, February 1st. I enjoy technology, but wanted to find something to inspire my students to be more active in their learning with technology rather than passively participating. I heard about Hour of Code and decided this was what I was looking for. My masters degree is in instructional technology which I received in 1993. This is the first time in a long time that I have been inspired to learn more. Both of my children are in computer science. My daughter works for Cisco and my son is finishing his undergrad in computer science soon. I work with students that might not have aspirations to go to college. I want them to have the same opportunity as my own children. I am excited about the prospective of actively teaching computer science again.

Hi, my name is Marina, I’m from Indonesia.
I teach Primary year 5.
I have no clue about coding and stuff but I want to learn and know more about it so that I can share it with my students.

Good day everyone,

My name is Jenny Croitoru and I work in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood where I get a wonderful mixture of the children from the neighborhood where there is about 60% Asian students, and a nice mixture of African Americans, Caucasians, and Latinos. I teach 5th and 6th grade Science. I am interested in being part of this community because I think it is important to have our students be prepared for wha the future holds but I too need to be abreast of what to teach to get them there, and this community allows me to not just learn but to have as a support to get me where I need to be.

Hello my name is Michael Williams and I am currently an Applied Technology Support Coordinator/Technology Instructor for a 5-12 academy located in Richmond, CA. I live in American Canyon, which is located in the North Bay. I have always thought that computer science needed to be an essential part of the k-12 experience and when code.org presented the opportunity to help make this happen, I quickly jumped on board.

My passion is software programming, which I have not had the luxury of spending much time doing lately. In the past I have experienced roles such as Network Administrator, Technology Teacher, Software Engineer, Technology Consultant, Technology Trainer, and even IT Director. I love to exchange knowledge and continuously expand on my expertise.

By the way my favorite ice cream is praline and cream.

My name is Kaitlyn Scott. I teach 3 grade math/science in small-town Alabama. I’ve lived here for 2 years now (not including the 4 I spent at the University up the road!) and originally am from Tallahassee, FL. I’m interested in being part of this community because I recognize that computer science is where things are heading! I want my kids to have a jump on it and to be productive digital citizens. Plus, tell those third graders “minecraft” and they’re hooked! My Twitter handle is @MsScott3grade and I’m super active there. I’m an avid coffee drinker, cat lover, and rocky road ice cream eater!

hi my name is dee dee, I do homeschooling to my 6 years old son. I want to learn this coding so I can teach as well I am learning too. My son loves minecraft and computer. I think this is the best way for him to learn and be more advance.

Welcome Dee Dee,

This forum will be a great resource - you might want to also check out the K-5 Code.org curriculum that will walk students through the basics and might be better suited for your 6 year old son. Check here: https://code.org/educate/curriculum/elementary-school for more information.

Hey everyone,

My name is Frank Barrett. I am an instructional assistant at an elementary school in Phoenix, AZ. I volunteered to host a computer science club that meets for one hour, once a week. The club begins meeting next week. I am attending a Code.org workshop in Chandler, AZ to help prepare for it.

That’s about it!

Eric
Leavenworth, WA
k-5th grade at Beaver Valley School. We are a small 2 classroom public school. I know little about CS.
The students have participated in The Hour of Code for the two years. They really enjoy coding their way through the games. I also participate in FIRST LEGO LEAGUE which involves programming the EV3 robot.
I am interested in having knowledge to better enable students’ success in CS. I am taking the online course with Code.org, and Here I am at step 5 introducing myself.

I am using officially the code.org as part of the school curriculum this year, I am very satisfied from the students interaction with this website, and mainly it was the best way to handle critical thinking and differentiation.

My favorite things are: swimming - Tennis - Traveling.

Hi Frank,
I would like to know if you are hosting the CS club online or local based, please?
Thank you!

Hi! My name is Mariana Zamora. I´m from Monterrey, Mexico and I´m a K-3 technology teacher.
I´m very interested in adding Coding to our curriculum!

Hi, I’m Tim Schmitt, the CTAE Coordinator for the Newton County School System in Georgia. I work with all of our K-12 schools on STEM and Career-related initiatives. I’m interested in the code.org community as a way to provide resources for the teachers I work with.

Hi,
I’m Lara Majcen and I am a math/science/tech teacher at an American international school in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
As a tech teacher, I work with all ages (PreK-12) and was very happy to use code.org courses with my students for the past three years. Frozen Hour of Code tutorial is still a favorite, and “telling the computer what to do” has become a big part of my classes.

I’ve taught CS up to AP level and am very excited to see new courses aimed at slightly older children on code.org - I hope to teach them as an afterschool club and later, as part of my regular classes.

A favorite ice cream flavor eludes me, but anything tea (or coffee) related will invariably excite me.

Hello Everyone.

My name is Raymundo Valdez and I am from Chicago IL.
I’m interested in helping start a video game club for a middle school and slowly progress into a full video game coding club.

Pleasure meeting you all.

Hello, I teach Computer Science in Georgia. I have been teaching CS for many years and am very excited to see where it is going. FINALLY!!
I have been trying to get more teachers to think about teaching CS as I feel that we are going to need a lot more people going into the field. I think it is intimidating for most teachers. We didn’t grow up in CS classrooms. We were familiar with many of the topics we teacher before we decided to pursue them but CS is a bit different. It takes a teacher who is willing to step out of their box and try something new to teach CS.
I have used Code.org for a few years and love the fact that I am now part of the community! Would love to get to know other teachers in Nortthern GA and share resources and ideas. - Lina Noss
