Welcome! Please introduce yourself

Hi my name is Haley Jones!
I am a K-2 technology teacher in the Detroit area. I’m interested in being a part of this community to help give my students the best technology experience possible and prepare them for 21st century skills that will help them be successful.

I have little experience with code.org or coding in general. I learned a little about coding through one of my grad classes and thought it would be great to try with my kids. My favorite ice cream flavor is Mackinac Island Fudge. Below is a funny teacher meme that depicts our jobs well!

Welcome to the community!

Hello,

My name is Dominique Allen. I run an afterschool program at an Elementary school and Im interested in broadening my kids view points about technology while giving them a new skill that can take them very far in life.

Your name June Jones

  • Where you live/work Dare Elementary in York County, VA
  • What grade you teach I am a K-8 Educational Technology Facilitator
  • Why you’re interested in being part of this community I plan to introduce this workshop to the staff at my school so that they can teach coding to the students

I am on Twitter @junemariejones

  • Share your favorite ice cream flavor chocolate

My name is Robin Brown.
I live/work in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
I teach 4th grade.
Last year, my school participated in Hour of Code and my students loved it. I would like to incorporate more computer/coding skills into my classroom.:kissing_closed_eyes:

I am Ashley Bonds. I’m a media specialist at a K-5 elementary school in Jacksonville, AR. I have a love of all things computing so this year my awesome lead learner (aka principal) encouraged me to include makerspace into my media center. On Fridays we have a STEM/STEAM/Makerspace time for one specific grade level. This year we are focused on 4th and 5th grade with this time slot, but I hope to add more as the years go. We are learning coding basics and I’m super excited to introduce them to Code.org and Hour of Code next week.

Personally, I live on a small cattle farm in rural north Arkansas with my husband and my dad. We have two Australian Shepherds, Satchmo and Lulu who roam the range with us. We are just starting out on our farm and our first five heifers are due to give birth in the next three months!! Exciting times at White Oak Ridge Farms.

I have been a media specialist for 8 years, but only in a school setting for 4 years. I spent some time in other areas of education and took a brief sabbatical to chase a dream of being a graphic designer for a short while. I loved that time away, but I missed the kiddos so here I am again.

I have very little experience with the ‘back end’ of computer science. I generally deal in the pretty stuff but I’m so excited to teach and learn how to get all that pretty stuff to work in a cohesive manner that is useful to everyone.

Howdy,

My name is Tracy Knapik. I live in central Texas and work at La Grange ISD. I took on a new roll this school year as the PreK-6th grade Instructional Technologist. I am also having to teach some classes at the High School until they find someone to fill that role. I do teach technology classes at the High School including Computer Science, however, I have come here to look for ways to start implementing it on the PreK-6th campus as the interest is lacking at the higher level. I am hoping to ignite a fire with the younger kids when it comes to coding. I haven’t worked much with the younger minds so ideas on how to connect with this age level is a learning process for me.

Hi  My name is Marisol R. and I live in Laredo, Texas and work in our school system. My title is “computer lab aide” for an elementary school, although I have no computer teacher to be an aide lol soooo I’m the computer lab teacher. I have worked in this position for 7 years and have integrated the hour of code for 5 years now in my lab. I just moved to a new campus so its starting feels I’m starting from scratch since coding was not part of the campus. It’s okay since I was finally able to attend a Hour of Code seminar (which was a blast) and I have new ideas for this campus  My favorite icecream is salted caramel with dark chocolate (I tell myself its healthy because of the dark chocolate lol)

Some of my classroom decorations

My name is Ivy. I live and work in Maryland teaching gifted and talented elementary school students. I am very interested in teaching students computer science because it is an integral part of their lives and enable them to think at high levels. I currently teach 5th grade students how to write computer code for the Arduino Uno and use Scratch, Bee Bots and Ozobots with students in all grade levels.
My favorite ice cream flavor is coconut chocolate chip!

Hello!

Sing, study poetry and history, teach science, like to look at things closely and figure things out.
Love nature, mindfulness and learning.

I am currently teaching K-6 “STEM x Computers” one day a week and providing tech support on two other days. For the past seven years I have taught elementary and middle school science. I have a masters degree in GIS and have been cataloguing and using helpful web-based science simulations over the years, but have done little full-blown programming since high school FORTRAN on punch cards.

In just three sessions with my students so far, I have found they respond with immediate engagement to interactive challenges that are aimed at their level. They’ve had a blast with Build a Block, Fantastic Contraption, Tinkerball, and Kodable’s Smeeborgs (to name a few). My brief is not just to teach computer science, but to teach/reinforce STEM content using IT resources, so I will be doing more than just CS or coding, but my first experiences with the kids in the computer lab have been great.

Hi! I’m Sara Byron, a 5th grade Language and Literacies teacher in Louisville, Kentucky. My class is a mixtures of Language Arts and Information/Digital Literacy. We just completed our Hour of Code, and I’m hoping to introduce more computer science into the curriculum!

Fantastic @sara.byron. This forum is a great place to meet folks who have used coding in their courses K-12 and have fun tips and tricks to keep students engaged and having fun. Welcome to the community.

I have had very little experience with code.org so far, although I have seen it being used in our enrichment time and the children certainly seem to like it!
