I am hoping you can help. I am working with a teacher who will be implementing a K-5 computer science program. She has a great handle on K-3, but we are wondering where to start the 4th and 5th graders as they have had no to very little CS experience. We want to build some foundational skills before throwing them into Course D (or even C). Is there a certain course you feel would be good to start them, or have suggestions on how to piecemeal lessons from various courses to build up their knowledge?
Thanks!
Hi, I just started code.org with our 5th graders. The majority have no to little CS experience. I started with “Make Your Own Sports Game” for a fun and easy “win” that they can finish in under 30 min, and then have them do “Hello World: Food” to introduce them to sprites.
Now I am confident with starting them on the full Course F. I did all the lessons in Course F myself and found that they were really well designed — the step-by-step lessons will make it easy for the less experienced students to succeed, and the mini-projects will allow the more experienced students to do as much as they want.
Hope this helps
