Will teachers be able to preview the updated content for next year? If so, is there an ETA on that?
Thanks!

@dmaletta There is a plan in place for teachers to preview the updated content for the 20-21 curriculum. Expect the new material to be available in the near future.
Terrence - Can I see the preview? Are there release notes? This would be very helpful! - Carol
These items should be available to the public in June!
Also, with the possibilities of continued disruptions in “regular” school due to Covid-19 will the curriculum include modification suggestions for distance learning and/or half-day schedules?
I’ve heard code.org is partnering with Carnegie Mellon for AP-CSP. Can you provide updates, news, and any PD opportunities?
Code.org has a page dedicated to going virtual with CSP in light of Covid-19:
Guide for CS Principles teachers during school closures
Other than that, I haven’t heard about Carnegie Mellon or other news, but things change quickly nowadays and I don’t have my ear so close to the ground, so maybe you’ve caught wind of some news before I have .
Thanks for the follow up. I had a rep from Canegie-Mellon respond to me today and they piloted curriculum this year which she has given me access to and she said that next year the code.org AP-CSP class will do all of it’s coding through Carnegie-Mellon. With all the changes coming to CSP, nothing can be released until the college board releases their updates.
Hello, friends. Code.org will continue to host and publish our own curriculum in entirety, which is endorsed by the College Board. We are excited to release the 20-21 version in just a few weeks! The programming units will continue to use JavaScript in App Lab. @dzulkiewski - I have reached out to CMU’s CS Academy folks to address any confusion. They point their own teachers to our curriculum for non-programming units.
We have partnerships with other providers like Khan Academy, which we highlight as useful resources to teachers, and will continue to do so.
Hannah - Hello! Do you know what day this will be available? Our schools might start again early in August and our admin wants the first 6 weeks online now, before we leave for break. Given all the craziness, it would be awesome to have access to this as soon as possible. Thanks!
Hi @carol.ramsey - look for the new version the first week of June. We need to wait to fully publish until after the College Board has released the full Course and Exam Description.
Thank you!
Hannah - Is there an official release date? I can view the new course now, but it isn’t “recommended” yet, so I assume that means it isn’t finished. The All Lessons and All Handouts PDFs aren’t available for most units.
If y’all are still working on these, could I make a few suggestions? With hybrid distance/in-person learning coming this fall, the PDF packets will be especially helpful.
I’m sure this is the least glamorous and most tedious part of the work! I’m working on putting this course and Discoveries into Canvas containers, so they sync with district systems and can be used by other teachers in the district. The tedious bits help this go smoother.
Thanks for your time!
I just did a quick dive into the new content. Looks more different than I anticipated but clearly well done! It looks as though some of my favorite projects are no longer part of the curriculum - the Digital Scene, Color Sleuth, and Canvas Painter. Is this accurate? If so, just curious as to why… Thank you!
@dmaletta We did have to “let go” of several favorites, but we hope that you and your students find new projects to love in the new curriculum. These decisions to remove certain projects were made to better fit the new AP Framework, and help student build skills that enable them to confidently tackle the new Create PT.
We just wrapped up AP Reading for this year and I cannot tell you how many clicker games, under the sea scenes, etc we flagged as security violations for being exactly the assignment in the curriculum. As you find your new favorites, I beg you to make sure students are not using them as their Create PT next year! I am interested to see what will replace the clicker game as the assignment to submit next year.
Oh good grief… that is lame… I’ve only had a few kids do some form of clicker game but it was always a major variation and was NEW.
Yikes - I take it some were variations or had modifications and did not count as plagiarism, and some were complete ripoffs?
I just listened to Kaitie O’Bryan and Hannah’s video about the new curriculum. Thanks so much for the webinar update training!! I am eager to get started, lesson plans look different. Kinda scary but it will be good. When I looked quickly into curriculum, I saw slides and journaling of new vocab words. Is there going to be new versions of the interactive notebook pages or we need to make ourselves? And is there any new vocab resources besides the highlighting of the new words in slides, practicing with the words, and then wrap up with journal? Thanks much!
Starting to make my distance learning course thru Canvas. Is Code.org ok with me posting the slides or parts of the slides online in my course? Or just use when I am in zoom meetings with kids? Looks like they are all together by Unit? Thanks.
