I admire that you are a mom of six and manage to do so many other things. I have two and it is difficult multitasking at times, however I would not have it any other way.

I have been teaching programming and office applications for about 25 years. I have been teaching ECS for 3 years. My school hopes to offer CPS next year, '16-'17. I want to dry run it in one of my programming or honors ECS classes this year

Hi all,

My name is Steve Svetlik. I’m going into my sixteenth year as a teacher at Deerfield High School in Deerfield, IL, with this being my twelfth year teaching APCS-A and my first year of CSP. I’m also going on my third year as Mathematics Department Chair at DHS. Over the course of the past 11 years I’ve seen the CS program at DHS grow from 1 section of APCS-A to 5 sections of APCS-A, 4 sections of Intro to Programming, a Data Structures and Algorithms course, and several students pursuing independent studies in a variety of areas. The whole experience has been a blast, and I feel like I’m learning something new from my students and colleagues every day. I hold a Bachelor of Science from UIC in Secondary Math Education, a Master of Science in Computer Science from DePaul, and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Olivet-Nazarene University.

Outside of school, you could find me on my Harley intentionally getting lost around town, training for a marathon (completed five already), programming (been bitten by the bug for a while), bowling (competed in college), binge-watching Game of Thrones (I too am a GoT evangelist… John Snow can’t be dead!!), or picking up the guitar when nobody is around and will feel sorry for me when I try to play. Most recently and more than likely, though, you’ll probably find me playing with my four-month old daughter and keeping her up past her (and my) bedtime.

Looking forward to meeting and learning from everybody in Chicago in August.

I also teach an Introduction to Technology class and the PLTW Digital Electronics class. I have a BS in Computer Science and a BA in Secondary Math Education from the University of MD, College Park - GO TERPS and my Master’s in Technology for Educators from Johns Hopkins. I am also heavily involved in Athletics both at the school level where I am the Softball coach and at the county level.

Outside of school I enjoy attending sporting events, hanging out with friends, and spending time with my family. Anything that keeps me active I enjoy doing.

Hi Betty - what is the best place you’ve traveled to?

I’m Neil and I had the pleasure of meeting Brook when I took the ECS development course last year at the Google building in Cambridge MA. I will be entering my 9th year of teaching at Everett HS. Most of my time there has been spent as a Special Education teacher. I have been running the after school computer club for the past 6 or 7 years. In my prior career, I worked in IT for about 15 years. The first few were in computer stores in the NY and Boston area. I spent a decade working for Ziff-Davis publishing and was a columnist for PC Week. McGraw-Hill published my book on how to be an IT Specialist in 1999. When I am not playing with Linux, I enjoy studying history and bowling. I’ve been blessed to have visited over 30 countries while cruising in Europe, Caribbean and to Alaska. I am a big supporter of Special Olympics and have jumped into the Atlantic Ocean in February for many years now.

I’m Jessica Parsons soon to be Jessica Jarboe. I got married earlier this month, and once I get the paperwork in I will have a new last name. I teach at Milton HS in Milton, MA. I have been teaching math and computer science there for 14 years. I have taught all kinds of math classes (Algebra, Geometry, AP Statistics, and others). I have taught Robotics, APCSA, ECS, and Honors CS. I am looking forward to teaching CSP next year.
I enjoy all kinds of dance and yoga. I coached the cheerleading team at the HS and advise a Student leadership group. I enjoy cooking, traveling, and going out to eat. Looking forward to meeting some of you soon in NYC!
