Data Sharing Agreements

Is anyone else beginning to run into data sharing agreement access issues that could potentially cause problems for their CS programs?
My district just told me that code.org’s data sharing agreement for student safety aligns closely with theirs with one caveat. The caveat is my district has an Indemnification clause. This is the section of the agreement that tells who is responsible for legal fees if there is a breach or illegal use of student data on either side. Apparently, my district wants to hold vendors responsible for legal fees regardless of liability. Would appreciate any ideas of what teachers can do in this situation. What would you do?

Hello @hcole!

Most companies and districts are using the Student Data Privacy Consortium model contract with their own modifications. Code.org asks districts to review ours at Code.org/DPA as it tends to provide more cover than most states require. You can email Alex (alex@code.org) directly if you have any questions.

Hi Hannah,

The link you posted is no longer working. I just switched my curriculum from Mobile CSP to code.org this week because of interference with another course taught in my district. I am in the same boat in terms of the data privacy act needs to be signed with my district before we can have students create an account. Are there any other options for students to gain access without logging in to an account?

thanks,
Jess

Hi @jkuethman - I’ve updated the link:code.org/dpa. Take a look here, and let us know if you need more information.

Cheers,
