HI, Iām John OāConnor. Iāve been teaching for 5 years after a 20 year career in Engineering and IT. I started out teaching Math, but have returned to my roots and am now teaching Robotics, Wood Shop, CAD/Drafting and will be teaching ECS this year. Iāve enjoyed the transition to the classroom, and especially like being able to use my skills and see how my students have taken what theyāve learned from me and expanded them beyond what I was able to do at their age. Iāve been well supported by my administration and hope to continue to work with them to meet the needs and desires of our students and their families in the engineering and CS areas.
Hi everyone! My name is Tina. This will be my first year incorporating computer science into my curriculum.
I have a mathematics background. I teach algebra, geometry and discrete mathematics in Franklin, MA.
Hi, Iām Steve Shultz, and Iāve been teaching for 10 years, after a 20-year career in the Air Force, and a 2.5-year career in Retail Management. Luckily in Virginia my Business degree also covers IT on my license, which is great because Iāve lived through the introduction of personal computers, they have been a hobby of mine, and now I get to teach it. Iām currently teaching Programming, which is transitioning from Video Game Programming to more of a traditional coding class, and for the 10th straight year Iām teaching IT Fundamentals. Iām looking forward to using elements of ECS in my ITF class while we figure out how to more completely implement ECS in the 16-17 school year.
In my copious free time, I like to bowl, go to movies, watch Pittsburgh Pirate and Steeler games, and spend time with my family, which often includes travel as our two sons are grown and do not live near us.
Hi, Iām Wanda. I am a career switcher and this is my 3rd year teaching. I just returned from an awesome vacation Iām looking forward to learning about ECS as this is not my background.
Hi, I will be teaching the course to 7th and 8th graders this year for the first time and I am excited to see how it goes. I was a blank slate at the training this summer but it truly was the best PD I have attended and I feel as though I have the tools to make this successful. Looking forward to using this forum to provide guidance and support throughout the year!
Bernard Johnson. Mechanical Engineer with a computer networking background from private industry. Became a math teacher 5 years ago and just recently moved into Business & IT/Computer Science.
Hi, Iām Cheryll Small, who was born, raised and lived in the Miami area all my lifeāand believe it or not, Iām a CTE teacher who has been in the classroom for 35 years!! Geez how time flies! Unlike particular subjects, our subject matter is not static, it changes continuously and to give our students the best, we, as their teachers, have to stay abreast of those changes.
Right now, to see how Exploring Computer Science can draw in students who would not normally even think about that particular subject matter is going to be an adventure, as I delve into the course for the first time. The end result for our students sound exciting.
Hello there. Iām Kenneth and in my 25 years in education, Iāve accumulated a lot of different experiences. I can honestly say that each year Iāve taught something different. Hello, my name is Lisa. This will be my first year teaching ECS. I teach middle school and would love strategies other teachers have had to motivate their students and to keep them on task.
