I will be out for 12 weeks. Any suggestions on what to leave? I want to make this as simple as possible!
Good question! Which grade(s) do you teach? Are you using a specific course (such as CSD or CSP)? If you give us a little more idea of what grades you teach, what they’ve already done, how familiar they are with code.org, etc., we might be able to better help you! I’m sure there are a lot of teachers out there who have had this exact situation come up before.
Good luck!
Mike
Hi! I teach 6,7,8th grades.
8th grade is CS discoveries. They are familar with the program. I just want the same lessons for all classes. Anything easy for a sub to use?
Hey Pamela!
I’v never been out on a leave of that length and I can imagine it’s overwhelming to plan for all three grade levels. You could use CSD for all three, but that would obviously affect your curriculum for 6th and 7th grades going forward if they aren’t supposed to be doing CSD until 8th grade. What are they doing currently in 6th and 7th grades?
You could totally switch it up (if you have that flexibility) and have them use the Express Course- the only caveat is that 12 weeks probably feels like a long time to have kids only on something that is self-paced and doesn’t have a whole lot of interaction. Is the long-term sub familiar/comfortable with CS?
When we first went into quarantine back in the Spring of 2020, Code.org had a weekly live ‘show’ whereby the co-founder (Hadi Partovi) featured different guests from all different backgrounds (tech, entertainment, etc.) and a lesson surrounding Computer Science. It was called Code Break- maybe that would be something you could look at? Here’s a link to Code Break. and a link to some other resources that might be of interest.
I hope that helps!
Wendy
Thank you so much! I teach so many different classes.
I love suggestion of code break!
No problem! I’m glad that will help!
