Welcome! Please introduce yourself

Hi I’m Jon Zapolski and I live just north of Cincinnati, OH. I am currently a senior QA (quality assurance) software analyst specializing in automation where I am in code (C#) on a daily basis. I am also in the process of becoming a technical manager within QA and am leading our technical team (the Autobots).

I am also a father of two children (6 year old son and 8 year old daughter). Both of them are being homeschooled by wife. My son is considered in kindergarten but is mainly doing 1st grade work (especially math). My daughter is doing 3rd grade work and they both have been playing around in Scratch and really enjoy it. I decided to teach both of them about programming because of their interest and my background.

I am excited to be part of this community to get the support I need to give my kids the best learning experience (and hopefully I will learn some things on the way). I am also excited to contribute in any way that I can.

Hi my name is Sofia Huitron. I live in Glendale Heights, a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois. I teach in Elk Grove Village, IL (northwest suburb of Chicago). This is my 9th year teaching. Currently, I teach first grade dual language. I’ve also taught third grade bilingual in the past.

I am new to the “coding” world, but I have always been interested in technology. I have a masters degree in Ed. Tech. and I’m currently finishing courses for my certification in school librarianship. My goal is to be able to move into a library media specialist position in the near future. Since my school principal knows I am taking courses, he approached me about starting a coding club for students at my school. I think it’s a great idea and a wonderful opportunity for me, except I know nothing about coding :frowning: !!! So my goal for this winter break is to learn as much as I can. I started with code.org and have found so many great resources so far. I’m looking forward to everything else I will learn and the people/connections I will make through this PLN.

You can learn more about me here and find me on Twitter: @sofiahuitron

My favorite ice cream flavor is butter pecan.

Thanks for reading!

Hello,
My name is Angela Tyler. I live in Loris, SC, however, I work in Tabor City, NC. I teach 3rd grade at a Pre-K-5 school. This is my 3rd year of teaching, however, this is my 2nd career. My first career was in Radio Broadcasting. I am looking forward to learning how to code so that I can teach my students how to code.

My favorite thing to do is watch Drag Racing in person. I love Pecan Ice Cream! I have a grandson in 2nd grade and a step-granddaughter in 5th grade.

Hi, my name is Joann Crawford. I teach freshman Biology at Chaffey High School in Ontario, California. I believe that it is very important to expose all students to computer science. I started a computer science club at my high school after school in hopes that it will lead to a computer science class.

Hello,
My name is Bonnie and I’ve been teaching in a small (420 students) K-12 building in Onekama, Michigan for 20 years. This year I am teaching 4th and 5th grade math and science. I have no computer science background…therefore, during my winter break I will be taking the online course so I can introduce coding when we return back to school.
I look forward to this adventure and learning from all of you.
Oh, and my favorite ice cream is toasted coconut!

Hi, My name is José María, Chema for friends, I’m spanish, and now, I live in Tegucigalpa.

Hello,
I am Jane Richardson from Centre, Alabama. I am teaching 4th grade at CES. Since I came to teaching late (at 50, now 65), I need all the help I can get in the technology world. When I saw a news special about Khan Academy several years ago, I was sold on its educational possibilities. My students have done the Hour of Code for the past 2 years and generally they learn more quickly than I do.
I like all ice cream but do not eat it in order to avoid sugar.

Heidi
I am a 4th grade teacher in Palatine, Il.
I have wanted to learn coding and a friend recommended this site.
Looking forward to learning

Hi,
My name is Susan. I am currently a college student majoring in education, but I plan on becoming a junior high mathematics teacher which is why I would like to learn how to code so that my students can benefit from it. I am interested in this community because I would like to share my ideas and learn more from other teachers because that is how we, as individuals, learn. My past experience with code.org was trying to complete some of the coding activities in my free time.

Hi all,
My name is Mehmet. I am ICT Teacher in Galaxy International School Uganda (Jinja Branch). I graduated from Computer education and educational Technology Department. I am interested in programming and I want to teach my students how to program.

Hello,
My name is DiAnna Martinez
I live in Kaiserslautern, Germany
I work at Vogelweh Elementary School (a DoDEA school)
I teach gifted education for K-5
I am interested in finding extended ways to get students involved in STEM endeavors and coding seems a good way to do this. I have had some students using code.org for a few years now (since it was first available) but would like to extend that student population to include more.

My name is Gianni I live in Olbia Sardinia Italy and I’m an “old” electronics technician with many years of experience in electronics.
For some years I deal with programmable microcontrollers and I was invited to organize training sessions in both the electronic and information technology, for high school students and middle school.
For me it is very rewarding to pass on my experience to the kids and then I agreed to develop these opportunities for training.
I did a search on the internet and I was drawn to how code org structure the training so much that I decided to follow the course online and be able to use your skills and are willing to give my personal contribution in terms of practical experience to all of you
Thank you in advance for everything that the forum will offer

Thanks, Hi, I’m Robyn, teacher aide, and IT specialist from St Marys in Hastings, Australia. I started with coding last year, using Scratch etc, but then discovered code.org from one of the parents at the school. We decided to do the hour of code at our school, and it was so successful that we decided to look into code.org a bit more thoroughly. There is a great range of resources that I intend to introduce in our school this year, hence I am learning a bit more about coding by doing this course. I am very happy with code.org so far, as we are a little school, not heaps of cash to splash on resources, and ofcourse, being in Aus, a bit far away for a workshop. Looking forward to the new year, and doing a lot of coding over the summer break.

I’m new to this website and I was wondering if someone would be able to help me.
Honestly I’m not a teacher and I know very little about coding. But I decided not to give and post a comment here. Please help I’m lost!
