Hello, my name is Geoff Wood and I teach middle school in Bass Harbor, Maine. I am very interested in computer science and technology and feel it is important that we present more opportunity and sooner to students in this area. I have always been fairly proficient in the use of technology, but am a total novice in computer science as a topic of study.
I look forward to learning and to helping my students to learn as well.
Hi, Geoff! Nice to see another middle school teacher here. I wish that the benchmarks/standards that they show for each lesson in the curriculum included middle school. I’m going to have to go hunt for some. Do you plan to teach a resource or elective class or include coding in other classes?
Mrs. Casey
I’m Ms. Kennedy from Bakersfield, CA. I’ve taught (and am still teaching) for 28 years, starting with math and then working my way into a computer science elective in junior high (7th and 8th grades).
I’ve used the accelerated code.org program with my students for a couple of years. Last year our school did the school wide code event and I also tried Khan Academy’s java script course with my students.
I’m always looking for ways to engage students in learning beginning programming as well as teaching basic computer science skills. I’m hoping the middle school curriculum will eventually go to a teacher by teacher basis instead of district wide so I can try it out with my students. I can see it being an adjunct series of lessons for students and a way to further their understandings of what they are learning in their math classes.
Hi, my name is Kylie and I teach in Surrey, BC, Canada. I have worked to learn coding with my primary students over the last few years and I am looking for ways to inspire my fellow educators to do the same.
My name is Beverley Boyd. I am a special education teacher at Val Vista Academy in Gilbert, Arizona. I currently teach 5-8 grade special needs students 4 days a week. I teach in the computer lab all grades and all students on Fridays. I have taken a few ed tech classes at Walden University and I loved it. I am excited about this teaching opportunity. I have never taught a computer class before. I am interested in being a member of this group to broaden my knowledge and connect with others who are just beginning in this field like me.
My name is Ann Rasmussen, I teach iDesign, which includes the basics of animation, storytelling, game design and programming for 7th and 8th grade. I completed the Code Studio this summer, and am excited to use this with my 8th graders who have some programming experience with similar programs.
I want to increase their understanding of the logic of programming as well as their CS vocabulary. Looking forward to participating in this group.
Hi, my name is Alex. I run an after school program at an elementary school in NJ. It’s a small school. It only houses Kindergarten and 1st grade. One of the clubs I started in the after school program this past school year was a computer club. The principal of the school is very nice and allows us to use the school’s computers. At first I was going to just teach the kids how to use MS Paint, how to do a few fun thing with MS Word, and play some educational games on the web. Then I found out about Code.org. I started the hour of code with the group and they liked it. They all played Angry Birds before, so I thought they could relate to it the best.
I also volunteer at the school and assist the Kindergarten teachers in the computer lab. They really don’t have a computer curriculum at the school. Since they are so young, the teachers really want them to get the basics, such as: turn the computer on, ctrl-alt-del, moving and clicking the mouse, shutting down the proper way, and typing. I told the teachers about the coding lessons and they all let me teach it to their students. When the kids were able stack the blocks in the right order and get the pigs all the students started to cheer. It was fun and nice to see the kids get excited about it.
If you get a chance to go to a Code.org workshop you should. I went to one last year and it was fun and informative.
Hi! I’m a K5 technology teacher in Oakland, CA. This year will be the second that my students will be learning via the code.org website, so I thought I’d take this online course as a refresher. Last year the paired programming strategy was great for all ages and contributed not only in advancing their coding and problem solving skills, but also for their socio-emotional development. This year we’ll continue to connect what they’re learning in this course with other grade level curriculum. Looking forward to another great year!
Hello! I am a school library media specialist in a K-5 elementary school located in Maryville, TN. This will be my third year using code.org with my students. Both my father and brother are programmers, so I grew up around computers and coding. I want my students to feel as comfortable exploring the world of coding as I do. I am also one of the STEM coordinators in my school as well as a Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Educator, so this ties in well with those interests. My students came back from summer vacation already asking when we would begin the code activities, so I know they are excited.
My Twitter handle is @Costner_suzanne, I have a book review blog for the school at http://fveslibrary.blogspot.com. And my favorite ice cream is the Mayfield’s flavor - O’Charley’s Caramel Pie.
Hi,
My name is Bas and I’m from the Netherlands, that’s somewhere in Europe.
I’m a software engineer and my son (7) and daughter are both very interested in what I do for a living and want do it themselves. The problem is that I have no idea where to begin and I hope to find that here.
Hello! My name is Kristin Yoho. I am the library media specialist at Rivesville Elementary Middle School in Rivesville, West Virginia. We are a K-8 school; I see K-5 students once or twice a week, and I see 6-8 grades every day for a semester rotation.
I’m interested in being a part of this community to learn how others are implementing coding in their schools. I tried some coding with my sixth graders last year and they loved it! I would like to understand it better myself so we can try coding with more students this year.
My favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla…it’s the perfect base flavor for adding lots of toppings!
I am Lindsay Nash. I will teach K-4 Computers, in the past I have taught grades 3 & 4. work at St.Timothy School in Virginia. I am excited to see how other colleagues are bringing coding into the classroom.
Hi-
My name is Tara Aderman and I am the principal at Livermore Valley Charter School (TK - 8). I am attending my first Code.org training tomorrow in Berkeley and am amped!
I’m Beth Ulring from Janesville, Wi. I’ve been working with Lego Robotics and FIRST Lego League with my 4th and 5th graders since 2002. I think it’s about time I took the time to explore Code.org. I can already tell it’s going to be a great support for our robotics learning. I’m amazed at how teacher friendly it is. The students and I are going to love it!
My name is Cindy and I teach 7/8th grade math and high school Algebra in New York State. I’m a special education teacher and used the google coding clubs to introduce coding to my 7/8th graders last year. I also used the lego EV3 robot and sphero. Boy, do I have a lot to learn. So, this summer I took myself to Pittsburgh, PA and took a course in programming the Lego EV3 robots. My goal is to learn basic programming so that I can teach my students. I’m also advocating that my school district provide computer science courses. Wish me luck!
Hello, all! My name is Stephen and I just started work at a K-8 school that wants me to teach in their new STEM center. I already have some familiarity with coding but I have no idea how I can begin teaching it to children. I believe that learning how to program is quickly becoming a non-negotiable and I am thankful for all the online materials that are available to help educators teach this important skill.
Hello!! I’m Diego Salvetti from Argentina. I live in Venado Tuerto (a small city in the middle of the country, near Buenos Aires). I’m a Telecommunications Engineer and a kind of musician (I play de harmonica).
I work as an Electronics teacher in a high school for kids between 14 and 18 years old, and also colaborate with the Informatics teachers in severals subjects.

Hi, My name is Karen Henchy and I live and work in Warwick, RI. I have been teaching technology and art for 20 years. I am very passionate about teaching kids to code and have used Code.org’s Hour of Code for a few years now and my students in K-4 worked on Code Studio Course 1 and 2 last year. I was very pleased with the program and the way that my students were so actively engaged and the way they collaborated with one another. I am interested in sharing my experiences with others and to learn from other teachers implementing Code Studio. My favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry!
Hi all,
i am new to code.org but am so excited to be able to teach my students code. My name is Cheryl I live in Kiama Australia. i am the Teacher Librarian at a small public school so I teach grades K-6.
I am so keen to teach coding as I feel it is imperative for students to not only be able to use a computer but to control and command it for thier own communication and learning. I can be found on Twitter: @cherylmarie. I have had past experience with CSS and HTML.
Great to meet you all!
