Welcome! Please introduce yourself

Hi everyone! My name is Jean Jones and I’m a STEM teacher at a Title I school in Anderson, SC. I’ve just started investigating coding and I want to teach my students grades 3-5 to code. I’ve seen the logic involved and love that we can use something that they will enjoy and they can learn and have fun at the same time.

I don’t have too much experience with coding, but there is a workshop not too far from me so I’m thinking I’ll do that in September if I need it after doing the online course.

About me - I have to have coffee to survive, food is optional. I do love ice cream, anything Ben and Jerry’s makes is perfect!

I’m very interested in using coding to open up the world for my students. Many of them don’t see a way past their own environments and I think that coding and seeing that they can do it will really help them to step out of the box!

Hello all!

I’m Melody Hodges, a gifted resource teacher living in Phoenix, AZ. Last year I introduced code to my 5th and 6th graders, and this year I’m adding my 3rd and 4th graders. I’m looking forward to learning from all of you in this PLC.

Seems like the most important question on here is the ice cream flavor, so please note! My favorite is almond milk rocky road! YUM!

Hello Coding Colleagues,
I am April from Charlotte NC. I’ve been using the Hour of Code resources for the past 2 years. I teach Computer Skills and Applications 1 & 2 and Exploring Careers in STEM. I ran an in school club last year. This year I will be running an after school club using Course 1, 2, & 3. I am interested in being a part of this community, because there is strength and encouragement in a community versus being a lone ranger.

Hi:
My Janice Pearson and I am a teacher that is giving back to her community in the TNT after-school plan.
I reside in Detroit, Michigan, and known as the Motor City and that title is changing quickly becoming a force to be reckon with in the field of technology.
My favorite ice is vanilla Swiss almond. I watched the video about coding with the two teachers’ hands-on skills teaching computer science. I enjoyed how they promoted the students to learn in the form of play and participation. I plan on taking this course to give students more options and critical thinking skills using play as a platform to promote computer science.

Hello, My name is Tangy. I live and work in Detroit. I work with K-12 students. I am not a teacher by trade. I went to school for engineering. I became involved in teaching/tutoring during No Child Left Behind and later became a substitute teacher. I enjoy teaching and am committed to teaching STEM in the underrepresented settings. I am the owner of TNT Educational Services. My website is tntedservices.com. I believe this community will help me in several ways and I look forward to making new connections.

Hi everyone,
I am a school library media specialist in the western section of Massachusetts, known by all around as the Berkshires. I presently work in the library of a middle school/high school. Throughout the years I have taken numerous html courses. I know little about code except that it is a new form of web design and want to learn more about it. I’m sure it will be a great experience.

Hello everyone!
I’m Roxanne and I am the Youth Services Coordinator for our library in Hermann. I am always looking for fun activities and programs for my community. I have hosted a Science Saturday for the last four months, for grades 1-6, and learned that experiments are cool - when they work and not my forte. So I’m hoping to gain some new skills here that will allow me to (not look like a fool!) impress and grow my programs.

Hi all

My name is Steve Morisani, Jr. and I teach mathematics and Computer Science Principles at Fairhope HS in Fairhope, AL.

I’ve been teaching since 1999. I have also taught in New York (Floral Park Memorial HS).
I coach soccer and am an avid runner and reader.

I love all things Code.org…and when I saw that you guys had created lesson plans I had to try them out. I love them and want to use them. My CS Principles classes participated in the Hour of Code last year and had a blast teaching students from our school and the local elementary school all about coding!
My favorite ice cream flavor has to be strawberry.
I’m a new user, and cannot upload images yet. :frowning:

HI All,
I’m Linda Palmer Nielsen. I have been a Teacher’s Assistant in a small rural Southern Alberta K-9 school for the past 15 years. I am involved in many aspects of our students’ learning careers. I am excited to be part of this community so that I can stay on top of computer trends and help the students at our school become 21 Century Learners. I recently read that in the future, there will be 2 kinds of jobs, either you will be the employee telling computers what to do or you will be the employee being told what to do by a computer.

I became interested in learning to write code when I registered for a EdX computer course and then stumbled onto Code.org. I was able to organize an “Hour of Code” for the Grade 2,4 and 5’s last year at our school. The staff and students loved it, and I got hooked.

Hummm - ice cream: There used to be a Shwanns mobile grocery truck that visited once a week. They carried THE MOST delicious Lemon Yogurt ice cream. Oh the sadness when we no longer had access to that. So I guess I’ll have to be content with Strawberry Cheesequake…

Hi! I teach in a small private school just north of West Palm Beach, FL. This year, I’m teaching a 1:1 second grade science class, and in addition to earth, life, and physical sciences, I would love to introduce computer science/coding to my student. I’m looking forward to learning how to code myself! I come from a humanities/education background, so this is all new to me. I’m excited to start the journey.

I’m on Twitter @kmhart97.

My favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate chip cookie dough.

I’m Stephanie Serra. I teach at Chickasaw High School in Chickasaw,AL. I teach 6-8 Technology. 7-8 Robotics, and HS Foundations of Engineering. I am using the teacher section of Code.org in my Robotics and Technology class for now and plan to use it in the future for my Engineering class. I have no real experience with coding.

Hi, I am volunteering to teach two K-6 after school classes at University Park Elementary in Maryland. I am a software engineer and I have never taught a class to kids before. The Code.org lessons are a great introduction to CS. My four year old was having a great time playing angry birds and making them crash into the TNT

Hi, my name is April Luptak. I live in Bullard, TX and this is my 2nd year of teaching 7th Grade Technology and my 2nd year of teaching ever! I am 47 years old and enjoying this change in career. I found code.org in December of last year and used the Hour of Code to introduce it to the kids (and myself!). I loved it so much I have decided to incorporate it into the semester curriculum. I want to be part of this community to get ideas of how to teach coding and computer science to middle school students.

My favorite icecream is dark chocolate with walnuts.

Hello, I’m Javier, a Spanish engineer that actually is working and living in Middle East; sorry, I could not find the “Add to map” button of my pin so I did not include my location. I have two children, of 3 and 6 yo and I want to introduce them (and me, of course) to the basics of code programming and build with them our own robots…

Hi My name is Lisa Hettler and I am an elementary librarian in San Antonio, TX. We have around 700 students starting with 3 year olds that are employee kids all the way through 5th grade. I am very interested in learning to code and sharing coding with my students.
