¡Hola a to@s!

My name is Carl Matejka and I live in Santa Fe, TX. I retired from Public school after 30 years of teaching. My friend invited me to apply for a Computer position at First Baptist Christian Academy in Pasadena. This was the best decision of my life. I teach K-12 and was tasked to build a program for the school. I accidentally came across Code.org and started using it with my K-6 students. It’s been a blessing to use and teach my students with Code.org. I am now evaluating whether I can use this to teach my Junior High and High School students so, we could have a seamless transition from Elementary school through High School.

Hello, my name is Alex Luciano and I currently live on Long Island. I live with my wife, Jennifer, my son, Lucas, daughters Leilani, and Lilyann. We value experiences rather than stuff, so we enjoy going out and creating memories. We enjoy spending time together on family outings, going on trips to museums, and going on vacations.
I have been in education since graduating in 2002. I completed my undergraduate studies at Hobart and William Smith colleges and earned my master’s degree in education from Mercy college.
I fell into teaching by accident since I originally planned to study pre-med and continue to medical school. I even interned at Mount Sinai in NYC! After not enjoying certain classes… Chemistry. I fell in love with Anthropology, Japanese culture, and language. After doing a term abroad, I wanted to continue studying and living in Japan. In 2002 I started to work as an English teacher for a Japanese company. I enjoyed it so much that I stayed teaching long after my original commitment.
After 2 years of teaching in Japan I came back to the states. Since the passion for teaching was still strong, I thought I should continue teaching. After some thought and research, I applied and was accepted to the NYC teaching fellows. The NYC teaching fellows provides NYC public school teachers an alternative route on obtaining a teaching license. I was able to get my general and special education license with a bilingual extension. During that time, I taught both in mono and bilingual 4/5 12:1:1 class. After 5 years of my 3-year commitment to teaching in NYC, it was time to settle down on Long Island.
I started to seek employment in the surrounding areas I resided in. I quickly found employment in the Central Islip school district. I have taught many grade levels. I started with bilingual 4th and moved to bilingual 6th grade for a few years as well.
I am currently teaching bilingual 2nd grade at Mulvey Elementary School. My teaching duties also include working for a title III after school program, and teaching adult education at night. The school district offers an after-school program for ELL (English Language Learner) students. This supplemental program helps students improve their proficiency for the state NYSELAT and to reach individual goals in ELA and math. The school district also offers continuing adult education classes to help adult students find employment and reach personal English language goals. I just started using CODE with my 2nd graders and introducing it to all the grade levels so they can start as prereader CODERS.
Hello,
I’ve had a Code.org account for years but never used it. I’ve decided this is the year I jump in and get started. My name is Reggi. I teach 5th grade at a K-5 in the Bay Area, in Northern California. I’ve always been techy and love creating curricula and investigating available software to help do my job. I know I have a competent group of students this year so I thought it’d be a perfect time to jump in and who better than code.org?
I’m looking forward to meeting a few folks to learn with and many others with whom to exchange ideas and creations.
