Hi! I’m Erin Taylor and I am a middle school Special Educator (grade 6). I am looking to try Unit 5 (Teaching Data and Society) in the near future when applicable. This is what I am most excited about since “Data” is the buzz word these days and would love to give my students an introduction/experience with what this means in real everyday life!
Hello. My name is Rashad Robinson. This is my first year teaching Computer Science Discoveries at Hayneville Middle School and Lowndes County Middle School. I’m excited and a little nervous. Throughout the semester, I have taught the first two lessons on aluminum boats and problem solving. We’ve used Firia Labs, Learning Blade, and currently using We Build It Better with the 8th grade so I’m really excited to build some excitement in my classroom as we return from Thanksgiving break. Before now, I’ve taught the Cisco Networking Academy at Trenholm State Community College, Valiant Cross Academy in Montgomery, AL. I’ve also taught adjunct Cybersecurity courses at Wallace Community College Selma in Selma, AL.
Hi I’m Mike from Providence. I teach Math in a small urban charter high school. Rhode Island is adding a CS graduation requirement so I am looking at how to deliver it to our students. We might be using Principles instead of Discoveries but I’m starting here as part of a class through URI.
My name is Sharyn and I teach 6-7th grade. I will be teaching CS Discoveries as an elective second semester. I am still figuring out which units I can get through in one semester.
Hi
I am Judy Blakeney. I will be teaching the Web Development section in my third quarter to middle school students in Southern California. I am excited about using this curriculum and supporting student learning.
Hello. My name is Kate and I will teach a one semester computer arts and science elective class for 7th and 8th graders starting after winter break. I’m a little anxious. My plan (as of now) is to do a shortened/modified unit 1, followed by units 2, 3 and 4.
Hi my name is Lisa Mcclelland I plan on teaching the CS Discoveries to my son who is in the 8th grade. Im also very interested in learning about the block chain.
Hello. I’m Lisa.
I teach 6th-8th in each period.
Plan to teach units 2, 3 and 5 in a one semester course starting in January 2025.
Excited? More like terrified, but don’t tell my students. Returned to the classroom after a 23 years absence working in non-profit and Upward Bound. Have zero experience teaching CS. Here goes to a new experience.
Hi, I am Andrea Jackson. I teach 2nd grade. I’m not yet sure which unit I’ll be teaching this year. But I’m excited to incorporate this into my students’ learning this year.
Hi All! I am Audra Carlson. I teach 7th and 8th grade Math & Science in a Montessori School. This is my first time trying a course on Code.org after using Tynker for several years now. I am looking for a quick (no more than 6 weeks) intro or overview of coding. Any suggestions as to which unit I should choose. I’m leaning towards gaming or animation. Thanks for any advice you can offer!
Hi Audra,
Welcome to the forum!
Yes, I would suggest Unit 3: Drawing, Animations, and Games!
Good luck!
@paul.rallion made a great suggestion. Unit 3 is a good introduction to JavaScript. I also like the Event Driven Programming unit that combines JavaScript and some HTML using AppLab. I’ve always enjoyed teaching that one.
Hi my name is Yolanda and I teach middle school, 6th through 8th grade students. I am exploring and will begin with Computer Science Discoveries but I look forward to being more adventurous by the end of the school year. Thank you for creating this resource because it goes a long way in bridging the gap in public schools where technology is not an option. Thank you.
My name is Sara Meixner. I teach 8th grade through 12th grade mathematics courses. I do not plan on teaching any CS Discoveries this school year. I am most excited by the professional learning opportunities in CS Discoveries.
Hi I’m Anna and I teach 6th grade technology. I plan to teach Unit 1 and some form of intro to gaming. So far I’m most excited about learning along with my students.
Bem vinda Eliana! Um prazer ter aqui alguém que fala português. Onde você ensina …Brasil, Portugal?
Ken Jeffers, I teach middle school grades 6th through 8 Science. I am still learning and exploring the lessons, so I have not chosen any CS Discoveries currently.
