Hello! This is my 4th year teaching AP CSA, and my 4th year using code.org as my curriculum. In the past, I had used Replit and later Juicemind for creating assignments and alternate projects beyond this curriculum, where I could view student code. Replit no longer supports teams for education, and Juicemind has switched to a paid subscription model. On code.org, I have not found any way to create Java programs from scratch to assign self-created assignments and projects. Is there a way to do this using Java Lab? Is this a feature that could be added in the future? And if not, is there any recommendation for a free online IDE that would operate similar to Replit or Juicemind?
Hi,
I also used Replit with my students, and I miss it too! Code.org’s Java lab offers a curriculum with daily lessons and activities for students to use to learn java, but does not do the same things that Replit and juicemind did in terms of teachers creating their own assignments and using it as a learning management system that way. I don’t know of any plans to add this functionality to the platform, but emails to support@code.org to request features are read and given consideration by the team.
I don’t have a great suggestion for something else to use for projects that will let you view your students code without them needing to send you files– with Replit and juicemind both not available, there seems to be a gap in the ‘supply’ for this demand. I’m hoping others on the forum could offer some ideas!

Hi @ddemuro ! I was sorry to see these tools go as well. I saw your post and did a little digging but not much. I stumbled upon codeHS where it let me create a java file (and it looks like a host of other languages as well). It then gave me an option to share it here. I’m not sure if this is what you had in mind but maybe its an option to pursue.

Thank you for the suggestion! I will give codeHS a try. It looks like it might meet my needs for creating assignments for my students.
