I’m Ryan I’m in the process of moving from Accra, Ghana where I’ve lived and taught for the past 5 years to a new school in Amman, Jordan. Part of my role will be to teach a MS Coding course so I’m looking to brush up on my skills. I’m excited for the move and the chance to teach a course that is new to me.
I’ve led the hour of code in my advisory classes over the course of several years as well as supervised a MS/HS coding club here in Accra. I’ve also enjoyed tinkering with code.org with my own elementary aged kids.

I used to be an art/digital arts teacher about five years ago. I had my students use Code.Org for the hour of code, and they had weekly assignments to do in Code Academy.
I have recently become an Apple Teacher with Swift Playgrounds, and I want to learn as much Coding/Programming/Computational Thinking that I can, so that in the Fall I can help my teachers plan to incorporate some of these things into their classrooms.
My name is Shannah Newman and I am the Technology Aide at Stevenson Elementary School in Mesa, AZ and I run the computer lab for K to 6th grades. I began my career in Computer science about 20 years ago building and repairing IBM compatible machines. Since then I have done networking, Data mining and database programming. After being laid off from the tech world twice I changed gears and became a Real Estate Appraiser only to once again find myself on the brink of losing my job with the market crash of '08. I decided to raise my kids for the next few years and go a bit out of touch with technology only to find that it’s literally everywhere these days. When I took over the lab here it was a mess and mostly used to play games (not always educational) instead of for real enrichment. My oldest has been “block” programming for a few years now and I seems like just about anyone can do it so I want to elevate the computer science program at my school and figured it was time for this old dog to learn some new tricks.
My name is Kevin and I live in Northwest Indiana. I am the technology instructor for three elementary schools Pre K - 6th grade. At the start of the year, I was handed a copy of the new state and national standards and told to get the kids prepared. We have desktop computers in the computer lab and Ipads 1:1 to work with. A few websites were discussed, including code.org. Some of kids had done Hour of Code, plus a few levels of coursework, the year before. We jumped right into code.org full time. I attended a one day workshop in early December, then decided to go back to school for IT and Business Management. I am enrolled at Purdue Global. Love it!
I kept them on coursework most of the time, but, let them explore the Hour of Code tutorials for fun. They don’t get grades… They work for freetime. If they work hard and complete several puzzles, I let them do whatever they want for the last 10 minutes. Right before the holidays we worked on creating and remixing projects to post online and send to parents, over the phone. They loved that. The second semester, we switched gears a bit, and worked on typing skills. Now, I am letting them choose a website that involves coding. Next year, we will try a little more structure with code.org in the regular teacher classroom. Over the summer we are putting in a new maker space and supplying it with… anything we can! lol right? State test scores made a significant jump from fall to spring… so that’s good…

Hi, I am Claudia and I teach special education Grades PreK to third in a Baltimore City Public School. I have been teaching here since 2001 when my hubby retired from 20 years in the Navy. We are now empty nesters and he is retired, retired but I am still working with some wonderful kids and thoroughly enjoy it. I have always had an interest in computers and would like to know what coding is all about and how to get my students interested to show them what their future could hold. We try to be part of a global community and technology is always a key component in this. I am anxious to learn more over the summer when I have time to explore.
My name is Sean and I’m a technology integrator in Orange County NY. I work with teachers and students to integrate technology into the classrooms. One thing I’m working to add more in is coding. The students love the Hour of Code so it seems like the next step is to add more coding to their classes. I currently work with all grade levels, but I have a special place for elementary level.

Hello all, my name is Melanie Cutler and I live and work in Broward County, Florida. I teach afterschool coding clubs for 4th and 5th grade students and this summer I will be teaching coding to 3rd through 7th grade students (yikes!). I am interested in being part of this community to connect with other computer science educators and most of all to learn how to do my job better! So far I have used Code.org with both of afterschool coding clubs with great success, but I feel like I could polish my own use of these resources, that is why I am taking the online training for CS Fundamentals. Last but definitely not least, my favorite ice cream flavor is Rocky Road

Hi, my name is Michelle and I teach at an alternative school in Arkansas. I currently teach 6-12 Math, and a slew of electives. I am the tech guru for my building and when we were asked if there were any electives that we could teach, I jumped at the chance to offer Computer Science with Coding for my students.I am starting with Code.org as I have played with the Hour of Code for a couple years now. My name is Liv (leaf) Perry. I teach in Morrisville, Vermont, USA. I am the Library/Media Specialist for our school of about 275 kids that serves K-4. I’ve done Hour of Code with all my students a few times, got a little more into coding with some Finch robots this year, and want to try out having my students access Code.org courses, whether in their classrooms or while they’re in the library with me. I want to do this K-5 course so I can promote taking it to my school’s faculty and for them to use Code.org.

My name is Lori Dupree I’m from Metairie, Louisiana. (Just outside of New Orleans.) I work at Kenner Discovery a pk-12 open enrollment charter school. I’ve been teaching computer studies (exclusively) for the past 5 years. Next year I will teach computer studies to 1st-6th graders. My students and I have been participating in Hour of Code for the past 4 years. I learned last Friday that I will be teaching a 5th grade and a 6th grade elective class next year, so I hope to learn enough over the summer to teach my students more advanced coding!

Hey! My name is Cris, and I teach 1st grade at a private school in Texas. I love technology (minored in Computer Information Systems) and coding, and I want to expose the kids I teach to this wonderful world! Hopefully, it will impact them enough to make a career out of it someday. I plan to start an after school coding club next school year for Kinder through 7th grade, once or twice a week. I have some experience with Java but am looking forward to learning other languages with the help of this site.
